LWC Baseball drops game one in series against Pikeville By Grace Blomstedt Pikeville, KY - The Lindsey Wilson baseball team dropped game one of its series against Mid-South Conference opponent Pikeville (KY) 6-2 on Friday afternoon. The Lindsey Wilson baseball team finishes its series against Pikeville at Johnnie LeMaster Field beginning at 11amCT on Saturday. The Blue Raiders (7-11, 0-1 MSC) recorded five hits in the loss. Tyler Maskill recorded an RBI double while going 3-for-4 from the plate. Pikeville (7-13, 1-0 MSC) found the scoreboard first in the bottom of the third inning when a Bear runner scored on a sacrifice fly to right field. Lindsey Wilson escaped the inning with the bases loaded. A scoring surge for Pikeville occurred in the bottom of the sixth when the Bears added five runs off five hits to expand their lead to 6-0. The Blue Raiders responded with two runs in the top of the eighth inning. Derek Zavala opened the inning reaching first base on a walk and then advanced to second and then third on stolen bases. Seth Price was also walked before Maskill hit an RBI double that brought Zavala home. Price was called out stretching in an attempt to score, but it allowed Maskill to get to third. Austin Rayno recorded an RBI single to left that allowed Maskill to score. The Bears went scoreless in the bottom of the eighth and the Blue Raiders were unable to mark any runs in the top of the ninth frame. Chandler Harnage (2-2) pitched 5 and 2/3 innings with five strikeouts. Brady Cappe picked up the win, going eight innings with eight strikeouts. This story was posted on 2020-03-07 08:13:23
