LWC Baseball completes series sweep against the Ozarks

By Grace Blomstedt

The Lindsey Wilson baseball team completes the series sweep with a 10-2 victory against the College of the Ozarks (Mo.) Sunday afternoon at Egnew Park.

The Blue Raiders (7-10) accumulated an impressive 18 hits, managing a season-high .439 batting average in the win. Vincent Boils went 3-for-4 at the plate, notching a three-run home run and tallying five RBIs to lead Lindsey Wilson.

Lindsey Wilson would get on the scoreboard first in the bottom of the opening inning on a Derek Zavala RBI double down the left-field line to score Tyler Maskill from first base.

The Ozarks (6-11) looked to respond in the top of the second inning but would leave two runners in scoring position. The Blue Raiders would record two more hits and score another run in the bottom of the inning. Chance Stayton made it home on a Boils sacrifice fly deep to center field.

In the top of the fourth, Seth Price and Kelvin Llanos managed a double play before Lincoln Rasmussen homered over the left-field fence, so the Blue Raiders continued to hold the lead at 2-1.

Lindsey Wilson responded with four runs in the bottom of the fourth to create a comfortable 6-1 lead. Stayton and Dillan Saunders each reached base on singles before Boils hit his home run over the left-field fence. Llanos reached first base due to a wild throw before advancing to third on a Maskill single. Llanos crossed home plate on a Derek Zavala RBI.

The scoring continued for Lindsey Wilson. Llanos picked up an RBI in the bottom of the fifth when he scored Fernando Rosales on a single to right field.

The Blue Raiders managed another offensive surge in the sixth inning. Price led off the inning with a solo home run in left-field. Kyle Collin and Cody Fallon both singled to reach base and eventually advanced into scoring position on an Ozarks error. Rosales hit a sacrifice fly to score Collin, and Fallon reached home on a Boils RBI single.

The Ozarks would score on an RBI double in the top of the ninth to cut the Blue Raider lead to 10-2 before Jake McDaniel would strike out the final two Bobcat batters.

Ethan Escue picked up his second win of the season, striking out five Ozarks batters and allowing a single run. McDaniel struck out three of the six batters he faced in the final frame. Stayton scored twice, going 2-for-3 in the batter's box while Saunders went 3-for-3 and scored once.

The Blue Raiders open Mid-South Conference play March 6 against Pikeville (Ky.) at noon CT in Pikeville, Kentucky.
