LWC Basketball set for Battle of Hwy 55 Saturday

The No. 12-ranked women's basketball team and the receiving votes men's basketball team hits the road tomorrow, Saturday, February 15, 2020, for the Battle of Highway 55 against Campbellsville University.

Tipoff for the women's game is slated for 1pmCT, while the men's matchup set to begin at 3pmCT.




Earlier this season on Dec. 7, the Lady Tigers took down Lindsey Wilson in the women's matchup by a score of 86-65. In the men's matchup, the Blue Raiders won 77-63 at Biggers Sports Center.

The Blue Raiders women's basketball team (22-4, 10-2 MSC) defeated Fisk (Tenn.) in a non-conference matchup on Wednesday night by a final score of 70-52.

Reagan Turner leads Lindsey Wilson in scoring this season with an 18.2 points per game average, which currently ranks second best in the MSC. Turner also rolls with the team lead in assists per game (3.2), with her season-high of nine coming on Feb. 8 against Shawnee State (Ohio). Turner has amassed 1,688 career points in her three years of action and needs just seven points to surpass Blue Raiders assistant coach Terran Duncan for fifth all-time in Lindsey Wilson scoring history.

DeAsia Outlaw carries heavy weight on both ends of the floor for the Blue Raiders, holding team leads in rebounds per game (8.0), steals per game (2.4), and blocks per game (2.1). Outlaw currently sits tied for seventh all-time in Lindsey Wilson career blocks history with 53 and needs just three more to pass Malerie Martin for sixth all time on the list.

J'Nayah Hall and Jynea Harris have each contributed double-figure scoring averages this season for the Blue Raiders. Hall enters the matchup with the Lady Tigers after scoring a career-high 27 points against Fisk.

The No. 3-ranked Campbellsville Lady Tigers (24-2, 10-2 MSC) had no problem in their last outing on the road against Pikeville (Ky.), winning by a final of 97-69.

The Lady Tigers currently rank first in the NAIA DI in five statistical categories: total assists (506), steals per game (15.9), turnover margin (11.4), three-point field goal percentage (39.1%), and total steals (415). Campbellsville is scoring 85.7 points per game while holding its opponents to just 61.8 points per game.

Madison Faulkner is averaging 16.4 points per game, sitting her third in the MSC individual rankings. Campbellsville's three-point shooting has been orchestrated heavily by Lexy Lake, who ranks second in the NAIA DI in three-point field goal percentage (44.8%), third in total three-pointers made (81), and sixth in total three-pointers made per game (3.1). Caitlin Hall sits second in the MSC dishing out 5.3 assists per game, while ranking fifth in the NAIA DI in total assists (139).

The Lindsey Wilson men's basketball team (17-9, 6-6 MSC) secured an upset victory on Feb. 8 on the road against No. 22-ranked Shawnee State by a final of 80-75.

Reece Brooks serves as a top threat for LWC, as he leads his team in points per game (20.0), assists per game (5.1), and steals per game (1.7). Brooks also leads his team in three-pointers made this season (78) while shooting 40% from behind the arc. Brooks connected on a team-high six three-pointers and notched 26 points in the upset win over Shawnee State.

Matthew Eldridge is averaging a team-high 6.6 rebounds per game and 1.0 block per game. Kameron Mack and Payton Cundiff enter Saturday's matchup looking to stay hot after a strong shooting performance against Shawnee State. Mack drilled four three-pointers and recorded 22 points, while Cundiff drilled five three-pointers and also tallied 22 points.

The Campbellsville men's basketball team (15-11, 5-7 MSC) fell in their last matchup against Pikeville on Feb. 8 by a final of 80-72.

Taiveyhon Mason continues to lead Campbellsville this season, as he leads his team in points per game (12.8), assists per game (3.6), and steals per game (2.0). Mason was held to just three points on 1-of-7 shooting in the earlier meeting against Lindsey Wilson. Ronald Taylor is averaging 10.6 points per game on 46.8% shooting from the field.

The Tigers have lost six of their last eight games and are shooting 44.5% from the field while scoring an average of 74.5 points per game this season.

Live video and live stats will be available for both games. Tipoff for the women's matchup is set for 1 p.m. CT, while the men's game will tipoff at 3 p.m. CT.
