Second-half struggles cost LWC Men's Basketball against Life

By Christopher Coombs

Marietta, GA - The No. 19-ranked Lindsey Wilson men's basketball team was upset on Saturday afternoon by Life (Ga.) 72-57 at the Hawks Nest in Mid-South Conference action.

Despite taking a 28-26 lead at halftime, a slow start in the second stanza that led to being outscored 46-29 over the final 20 minutes of play cost Lindsey Wilson against the Running Eagles (10-6, 1-2 MSC). LWC falls to 12-4 overall and 1-1 in the Mid-South Conference.

Two Blue Raiders managed to score double-digit points as Reece Brooks led the way with 17 and Avery Edwards added 14 points of his own. Edwards just missed out on a double-double, adding nine rebounds on the afternoon.

Lindsey Wilson struggled to find their offensive rhythm, connecting on just 21-of-54 shots on 17.4 percent shooting from beyond the arc. Life managed to make 45.5 percent of their field goal attempts on the day.

The Running Eagles attacked the glass, finishing the game with a 38-32 rebound advantage while also making use of a 18-7 points off turnovers advantage. Life managed six steals and forced LWC into 13 turnovers.

The first half was a close affair as Lindsey Wilson and Life were never separated by more than five points in its entirety. LWC held the largest lead of the half at 28-23 with 2:19 to play.

The second half saw Life open on a 16-2 run to the 14:34 mark as Lindsey Wilson managed to make their first basket of the half moments later via Matthew Eldridge. Life increased their lead to as many as 15 points at 32-47 over the next few minutes of action.

With 5:41 to play and an 18-7 LWC scoring spurt, LWC trimmed their deficit to as few as four points at 54-50. It was as close as the Blue Raiders would get. Life extended their lead to as many as 16 over the waning minutes before completing the upset.

Life's Antwan Maxwell led all scored with 24 points as Jeremy Joyner finished with 18 points and 10 rebounds to record the double-double.

Lindsey Wilson continues MSC action on Monday when they travel to Lebanon, Tennessee to take on Cumberland (Tenn.) at 6 p.m. CT
