LWC Men's Soccer faces No. 1 Central Methodist in semifinals

By Brady Budke

Rainer De Jesus netted a game-sealing free kick goal in the 77th minute to help Lindsey Wilson defeat Missouri Valley in the quarterfinal match on Wednesday afternoon. Now, the Blue Raiders sit just one match away from playing for a national championship, as they face No. 1-ranked Central Methodist (MO) in the semifinal match tonight at 6pmCT in Irvine, California.

For Lindsey Wilson (16-3-1) this season, the trio of Bruno Henrique, Akean Shackleford, and Oscar Dueso has exploded the stat sheet, accumulating a staggering 110 of the teams 173 total points. Shackleford serves as the offensive anchor, as the forward leads the team with 21 goals, eight assists, 50 points, 103 total shots, and 49 shots on goal. Shackleford currently ranks in the NAIA top 15 in six individual categories. Dueso has netted 14 goals and passed out six assists for 34 points, while firing 68 total shots with 32 being on goal. Henrique has tallied two or more points in three of the last five matches and has scored 10 goals and six assists for 26 points this season. On defense, goalkeeper David Coffey has notched 79 saves, allowed 15 goals, and garnered a 13-1-0 overall record in his junior season.

Central Methodist (23-1-0) comes into the semifinal matchup with Lindsey Wilson looking to defend their 2018 national championship crown. The Eagles one loss this season came on September 7th, where they fell short 2-1 to Bellevue (Neb.) in upset fashion as the Bruins finished their season at just 8-10-2. Despite the lone upset loss, Central Methodist has dominated its scheduled opponents this season by outscoring them 118-16 while tallying 14 total shutouts.

The high-powered Eagles offensive attack is spread out evenly through their deep depth chart. Eight players have notched 20 or more points this season, led by forward Alberto Pangrazzi with 51. Central Methodist has seen 19 different players net a goal this season, led by Pangrazzi with 23 goals and four hat tricks. The Eagles have had 21 different players dish out an assist this season, led by defender Marcos German with 15. On defense, goalkeeper Vince Gelei has shown strong consistency in the Eagles net allowing just 13 goals and garnering 40 saves en route to 10 shutout victories.

Live video and live stats will be available for the match. The match is scheduled to begin at 6pmCT at the OC Great Park Field 12 in Irvine, California.
