Outlaw paces LWC Women to 65-63 win over Aquinas By Chris Wells Richmond, IN - DeAsia Outlaw recorded a double-double to lead No. 15-ranked Lindsey Wilson women's basketball to a 65-63 win over Aquinas (MI) on the first day of the First Bank Richmond Classic hosted by Indiana East. The Blue Raiders (2-0) had to withstand a furious Saints rally over the final three minutes to remain unbeaten on the season. Aquinas missed a potential game-winning 3-pointer with 3.7 seconds left. The Saints were unable to get another shot despite keeping possession of the ball the remainder of the game. Lindsey Wilson looked to be in control, leading 63-54 with 3:20 left in regulation. But the Saints refused to go away, having a chance to take the lead late in the game. The Blue Raiders did not score a field goal in the final 5:52. During the Aquinas comeback in the final 3:20, Lindsey Wilson was 0-for-5 from the field, making just two important two free throws down the stretch. Outlaw poured in 23 points and grabbed 11 rebounds for her first double-double of the season. Reagan Turner scored 12 points and grabbed seven rebounds while J'Nayah Hall added 11 points and eight rebounds. Lindsey Wilson scored the game's first eight points en route to building a double-digit lead in the opening frame. Aquinas managed to chip away at the Blue Raider lead, trailing by just five (19-14) at the end of the first 10 minutes. The Blue Raiders used spurts to keep the Saints (1-2) -- who are receiving votes in the NAIA Division II Top-25 Poll -- at bay throughout the game. Lindsey Wilson never trailed in the game. Lindsey Wilson extended its lead to as many as nine points (37-28) early in the third quarter only to have Aquinas tied the game at 43-43 with 2:35 left in the third. It was the lone tie of the game. Leading 55-54 in the fourth quarter, Lindsey Wilson used an 8-0 run to take the 63-54 lead. The Blue Raiders hit their cold spell over the final 3-1/2 minutes but did enough to secure the win. Lindsey Wilson shot just 37.5 percent (27-of-72) from the field, including making just three of its 14 3-pointers. On the flip side, the Saints shot over 41 percent from the field and beyond the 3-point arc (7-of-17) to keep the game close. Lindsey Wilson returns to action at 1pmCT on Saturday as the Blue Raiders face Madonna (Mich.) on the final day of the First Bank Richmond Classic. This story was posted on 2019-11-01 19:40:11
