LWC Archery finishes second at MSC 3D Championships

By Chris Wells

Williamsburg, KY - Lindsey Wilson archery finished second at the Mid-South Conference 3D Championships at the University of the Cumberlands All-Purpose Field.

Host Cumberlands won the team title with 139 total points. The Blue Raiders finished second with 132 followed by Pikeville (KY) in third place.

Points are based on the number of top-four finishes during the championship. Ten points are awarded for a gold medal, eight points to a silver, six for a bronze medal, and five points to a fourth-place finish.

Lindsey Wilson ended the day with five golds, four silvers, five bronze medals, and four fourth-place finishes.

Makenzie Hayes won the women's bowhunter title with 60 points over six arrows. She posted scores of one 12, four 10s and an eight to win the title by two points. Savy Scott finished fourth in the event with a 56.

T. Sanchez won the men's recurve event with a 74, besting Kentucky Christian's Shane Adams' 72. Sanchez recorded two 12s -- including his final arrow -- and five 10s in the seven arrows to take the win.

Christa Nelson posted a runner-up finish in the women's barebow. She ended with a 38 -- second only to Pikeville's Jamir Karr's 49 points.

Casie Metcalf and Oliva Harner finished second and fourth respectively in the women's recurve. Metcalfe finished with a score of 52 while Harner posted a 43.

Taylor Bell finished fifth in the men's bowhunter competition where just six points separated first from fifth. Bell tallied 58 points in his six arrows.

Ethan Johnson finished third in the men's compound bow with 60 points while Ashlyn Scriven ended in fourth in the women's compound with 54 points.

In the team shoots, Lindsey Wilson won the mixed bowhunter, women's barebow, and the mixed recurve.

Second-seeded Lindsey Wilson reached the mixed bowhunter finals by beating Bethel (Tenn.) in the quarterfinals and Union (Ky.) in the semifinals. The tandem of Bell and Scott upset top-seeded Cumberlands 117-111 to claim the title.

In the women's barebow, Christa Nelson, Makayla Potter. and Casey Stickfort teamed to beat Cumberlands in the semifinals and dominated Kentucky Christian 99-66 in the finals to win.

The top-seeded team of Sanchez and Metcalf needed just one win to claim the mixed recurve title. The duo beat Pikeville 115-102 in the championship shoot.

Metcalf, Harner and Madison Loveless earned a silver in the women's team recurve while Scott, Hayes, and Courtney Blevins finished second in the women's bowhunter shoot.

The second-place finish is one better than the Blue Raiders' third at last season's championships.

Lindsey Wilson returns to action on Oct. 4-6 as the Blue Raiders travel to the 3D national championships in Foley, Alabama.
