LWC Volleyball rolls in 3-0 sweep of IU Southeast

By Christopher Coombs

New Albany, IN - The No. 10-ranked Lindsey Wilson volleyball team got back to their winning ways tonight with a 3-0 sweep of Indiana Southeast. It marks the eighth time this season LWC has swept an opponent.

With the win, Jerry Forbes picks up his 100th career victory as a head coach. He reaches the feat after eight seasons as a coach, recording wins during his seven seasons at Brescia (KY) and one season at the helm of Lindsey Wilson.

The Blue Raiders (10-3) and the Grenadiers (9-3) nearly equaled each other in kills for the match as LWC held a slight 35-34 advantage. Lindsey Wilson hit .232 compared to IUSE's .035 as LWC forced Indiana Southeast into 30 errors.

Kasia Nideral recorded a match-high 14 kills as Elly Burke managed nine of her own. Lauren Larzelere and Peyton Johnston led the defensive efforts as they recorded 14 and 12 digs, respectively. Camryn Rich paced Lindsey Wilson with 23 assists.

The Blue Raiders rolled in the opening set with a 25-10 result. LWC opened the frame on a 7-0 run before increasing their lead to as many as 14 in the set at 23-9.

Lindsey Wilson would once again jump out to an early lead in the second set as they scored the first six points. IUSE would trim the lead to 11-7 but another surge by LWC would vault them to a 25-15 win, marking their largest lead in the set.

The Blue Raiders would once race to a quick lead in the set, leading by six points at 10-4 but Indiana Southeast would battle back. The Grenadiers would manage to take their first lead in the match at 16-15 before extending their lead to two at 20-18. LWC would score six of the next seven points before taking the match 3-0 on a 25-23 third set victory.

LWC returns to the court with a road contest on Thursday, Sept. 19, as they return to Mid-South Conference against Cumberland (Tenn.) at 7pmCT.
