Celebrate Creelsboro 2019

By Robert Cumming

Under a beautiful late Summer sun the first of hopefully many more Celebrate Creelsboro Ky inaugural events took place Saturday. Downtown Creelsboro was all dressed up, ready and waiting from the year-long planning of a really big show.

There were hayrides to the Rock House along with an antique car cruise-in, Dr Perkins Historic General Store & Restaurant hospitality.

An impressario provided the next entertainment doing a mix of Elvis, Johnny Cash, Frank Sinatra. Next up was rising star vocalist young Beckham Holt doing some great country favorites. Another older Elvis impersonator picked up the microphone for his show. The latest version of the Crossroads Quartet rounded out the great entertainment.

All day Saturday the Creelsboro Nazarene Church hosted multiple screenings of standing room only crowds viewing post-production scenes of a future KET-TV program on the History of Creelsboro.

Musical entertainment was provided by local eclectic Christian themed, super talented Cumberland Thunder band.

Throughout the long day a splendid time was thoroughly enjoyed by all.

The many sponsors of this well coordinated, first-ever festival really stepped up to make it a success. Golden Rule Realty provided the shade of a large show tent along with Stephens Pipe large semi-flat trailer bandstand all set up on the historic site of the former, well known Irvin's Store in the middle of downtown Creelsboro.

ColumbiaMagazine.com provided pre-event promotions.

Writer of Creelsboro story proud of festival event

Family - and finally, met the owner. During Christmas I had written a story for ColumbiaMagazine.com about the new Creelsboro Restaurant. I spoke with the owner (a local doctor) on the phone but had yet to meet him in person. Creelsboro was packed with visitors today and it just so happened that we ran into family and the good doctor. Pictured are, from left, Kasey Blue Kessler, Dr. Richard Perkins (restaurant owner), myself, and Aunt and Uncle Dwan & Laverne Hadley. - TK

Festival goers took advantage of the beautiful weather to attend the first annual Creelsboro, KY festival. The restored general store was a main attraction. The hills in the background edge the Cumberland River. This view is at the turn where hayrides went on to the natural arch, the Rock House that gave its name to Rockhouse Bottom.

The Rock House endures

2019-09-15 - Russell County, KY - Photo by Tiffany Kessler, columbiamagazine.com.
Even when Cumberland River traffic was slowed because highways became available, even when commerce in Creelsboro gradually closed and buildings were lost to ruin, this ancient Rock House continued to draw visitors. One resident decided to restore a building and that inspired more people to come. Last November a committee of local folks determined the town would have its renewal and the first festival took place Saturday, September 14, 2019. ColumbiaMagazine.com is proud to have served in the pre-event promotions to help spread the word. Congratulations to all who worked and all who came. - LW

It was a first visit for all. Eight-month-old Weston was happy to enjoy the outdoors and scenery of Rockhouse Bottom with his mom Michelle Neat, of Adair County, and grandparents Gary and Pam Copley of Jamestown. This was the first trip to the famous natural formation for each of them.
