Dr. Kyle Mann's art work is on display in LWC's Begley art gallery

Dr. Kyle Mann of Columbia is one of 18 local artists whose work is on display in the Adair County Arts Council exhibit of works by local artists at the Lucretia C. Begley Gallery in the Slider Humanities Center on the campus of Lindsey Wilson College.

His still life architectural design of the University of Louisville School of Dentistry was created, and prints from it were made, to honor his professors, staff, and the Dean of the UofL School Dentistry at Christmas in appreciation during his final year of dentistry.

This drawing displays the current University of Louisville School of Dentistry built in 1970 and renovated in 2011. The new entrance shown in the drawing is more than an entry, it welcomes 120 new dental students and over 100,000 dental patients each year.

In his artists statement, Kyle writes: "Following the career path of the first class of dentists that graduated from the UofL Dental School in June 1887, I spent four years in this building engaging with the faculty and patients. When you spend so much time in a building and gain so much from its purpose, it holds value and becomes interwoven into your very existence.

"This personal interest piece was reproduced and presented as a 2018 Christmas gift for my instructors and the administrative officials at the UofL School of Dentistry. A replica of the print now hangs in the dean’s office alongside pen and ink drawings of the school prior to its renovation and drawings of the first dental school built in 1918.

"I was honored Dean Bradley used my artwork design on a commemorative coin given to 2018 donors contributing $1,000 and above to the dental school. Dean Bradley hopes to continue this tradition by having future students design a commemorative coin each year for the Dean’s Circle contributors."

Following graduation from ACHS and WKU, Kyle entered the UofL School of Dentistry as the youngest member, and graduating member, of his class in May 2019. He is currently working in the dental office of Dr. Rebekah Branscum in Nancy, KY.

The LWC art exhibit is free and open to the public from 8am to 5pmCT Monday through Friday now through September 20, 2019. A reception will be held at 6pmCT Thursday, September 19, 2019.
