KYTC diverts eastbound Bluegrass Parkway for bridge repairs

By Chris Jessie

After inspection and analysis of the bridge over Beech Fork, the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) will be closing both eastbound lanes between Mile Markers 21-25 on Saturday, July 13th. The closure is in the best interest of safety for motorists and will reduce physical stresses and impacts to the structure until repairs can be made. KYTC is in the process of signing detour routes and should be ready to implement the closure around 9amET

Motorists except for truck/commercial traffic will detour Exit 21 (Bardstown) at US 31E to US 62 to US 150 and rejoin Eastbound Bluegrass Parkway at Exit 25. Truck/commercial traffic will detour via I 65 to KY 245 to US 150. Crossovers will be built as soon as possible to divert eastbound traffic to the westbound side. The described detour will remain in place until crossovers are constructed.

Bridgework plans are also in progress as engineers continue analyzing inspection results to determine the scope of repair.

This alert serves to emphasize short notice action to the general public, media and stakeholders. A formal news release will be issued early next week as details of the project timeline are developed. KYTC's District 4 Office in Elizabethtown will provide updates throughout the evolution of this project.
