Letter: VFW Memorial Day Service was a touching tribute

Adair County Judge Executive Gale Cowan writes, "I attended the VFW Post Memorial Day Service and if you have never seen the Table of the Fallen Soldier, I hope you get the chance someday. This is a very touching tribute. The reading as they placed the items on the table was very meaningful."

Missing Man Ceremony

VFW Post 6097 held a Memorial Day event in honor of those who have died while serving their country and those who are Missing in Action.

During the Missing Man Ceremony, "Reaper", a member of the US Veterans Motorcycle Club, read the emotional poem entitled POW/MIA Remembrance Table. Ted Caldwell lit the candle during his part of the ceremony.

Alexander Flowers, of Louisville, was in attendance with his grandparents Jim and Georgann Flowers of Columbia. Both Georgann and County Judge Gale Cowan were eager to photograph him next to the touching table setting. Alexander is the son of Michael and Sarah Flowers.

Memorial Day: Placing the Flag

VFW Post 6097 Commander Joe Hare placed an American flag, the final piece of the remembrance ceremony, in place and gave a salute on Sunday afternoon. The event, which focused on Prisoners of War and those Missing in Action, was well attended.
