Ramirez shuts out CU to send LWC Softball to MSC finals

By Chris Wells

Bowling Green, KY - Top-seeded Lindsey Wilson softball punched its ticket to the Mid-South Conference Tournament championship game with a 3-0 win over second-seeded Campbellsville University today at the Michael O. Buchanan Park.

With the win, the Blue Raiders (45-2) are the lone remaining team unbeaten in the tournament. Lindsey Wilson returns to action at NoonCT on Monday, May 6, against the team that emerges from the consolation bracket.

Annabelle Ramirez was dominant in improving to 14-0 this season in the center circle. She went the distance, allowing just three hits while striking out seven in the complete-game shutout. Ramirez retired the final 11 batters she faced.

Lindsey Wilson grabbed an early 1-0 lead with a run in the bottom of the first inning.

Zakiya Sizemore provided a one-out triple and scored on a sacrifice fly by Cassie Matlock to give the Blue Raiders the 1-0 lead.

The Lady Tigers (32-12) managed a hit in each of the second, third and fourth innings, but never threatened to score. Ramirez did not allow a Campbellsville runner to reach second base during the game.

While Ramirez was on top of her game, the Lindsey Wilson offense added some insurance in the fifth inning.

Samantha Luckett led off the inning with a double but was erased on a Desiree Change fielder's choice for the second out of the inning. With Chang aboard, Mid-South Conference Player of the Year Callum Pilgrim tripled in the second run of the game to give Lindsey Wilson a 2-0 lead.

A Campbellsville error allowed Sizemore to reach base and Pilgrim to score for the 3-0 lead.

That was more than enough run support for Ramirez.

Sizemore led Lindsey Wilson with a pair of hits while five different Blue Raiders recorded one hit each.
