LWC Softball picks up two wins over Cumberland

The No. 8-ranked Lindsey Wilson softball took both games against Cumberland (TN) at Sparks Park Tuesday afternoon.

Lindsey Wilson (29-1, 12-0 MSC) out-hit the Phoenix 15-5 over the two games, while only allowing two runs by Cumberland. Callum Pilgrim captured the all-time stolen base record in Lindsey Wilson softball program history in the bottom of the sixth inning with 92 career stolen bases.

Makea-Al Kaluau led the offensive efforts batting 5-of-6 with three RBIs on the day. Pilgrim went 2-of-3 in game one with two home runs and three RBIs.

Lindsey Wilson softball team is back in action Wednesday against Ohio Christian at 1pmCT at Marilyn D. Sparks Park, Lindsey Wilson Sports Complex, 928 Russell Road, Columbia, KY.


Game 1: Lindsey Wilson, Cumberland

Lindsey Wilson got off to an explosive start in the game as Callum Pilgrim and Jaydee Boursaw both produced solo home runs. Pilgrim sent hers over the fence on the first pitch of the game as Boursaw managed hers with one out in the inning.

Pilgrim continued to feel it at the plate during her next at in the third inning when she hit her second home run of the afternoon. This one scored two runs as Desiree Chang reached base earlier in the inning when she was walked.

Cumberland battled back in the fourth and fifth inning to score two runs on two hit and one Lindsey Wilson error.

In the fifth inning, the Blue Raiders led off with a walk by Pilgrim. After a Pilgrim stolen base, Zakiya Sizemore managed a single to put runners on the first and third for the Blue Raiders. After a Blue Raider groundout, Kalli Harris drove in two more runs for Lindsey Wilson off a single to center field. Make a-Al Kaluau provided two more runs off a two-run home run for Lindsey Wilson, extending the lead to 8-2.

One inning later, the Blue Raiders would extend their lead to 10-2, to win by run rule.

The inning led off with a pair of singles from Luckett and Chang. Pilgrim stepped up and reached base on the fielders choice to put runners on the corners with one out. Pilgrim advanced to second on a stolen base to claim the all-time stolen base record at Lindsey Wilson with 92 stolen bases.

Sizemore hit into a sacrifice fly to left center field to drive in the first run of the inning. Jaydee Boursaw closed out the game with a single to center field to give Lindsey Wilson the win.

Hannah Epperson picked up her tenth win of the season, pitching six innings with seven strikeouts, allowing only three hits.

Game 2: Lindsey Wilson, Cumberland

Blue Raider offense hit the ground running in the first inning scoring the first run of the game. Jaydee Boursaw reached base after being walked with two outs. Kalli Harris drove in the first run of the game off a triple deep down the right-field line.

Lindsey Wilson extended their lead in the next inning to give the Blue Raiders a commanding 4-0 lead. The inning led off with a Makea-Al Kaluau single and Samantha Luckett being walked on the first two at-bats. Lauren Lett advanced the base runners to second and third off a sacrifice bunt. Lyric Houston hammered a three-run home run over the left field fence to extend Lindsey Wilson's lead.

The Blue Raiders would drive in one more run in the third inning off Kaluau single to bring in Kalli Harris expanding the Blue Raiders lead to 5-0.

Strong pitching performance by Annabelle Ramirez kept the Phoenix batters in check. Ramirez recorded her 10th win of the season, pitching seven innings with 11 strikeouts and allowing only two hits and walking three batters.
