Randall Knox named Lindsey Wilson Tennis Coach

By Chris Wells

Randall Knox has been named Lindsey Wilson College's men and women's tennis head coach, Lindsey Wilson athletics director Willis Pooler announced on Wednesday.

Knox takes over for Justin Martin, who resigned last month.

"I consider it a privilege to have the opportunity to be a part of the Lindsey Wilson athletic department and this community," Knox said. "I would like to thank Willis Pooler and the entire department for giving me this opportunity to lead one of the top programs in the NAIA.

"I also want thank the coaches I have worked with over past 15 years," Knox added. "Most recently, Chase Hodges of Georgia Gwinnett College who allowed me to part of a well-respected, national-championship program and who molded me and taught me the skills needed to become a head coach in collegiate tennis."

The Lindsey Wilson job is the first collegiate head coaching position for Knox following successful assistant coaching stints, Samford University, University of Alabama-Birmingham, Georgia State University, Gonzaga University and most recently at Georgia Gwinnett.

"We are extremely fortunate to hire someone of Randall's background in the game of tennis to lead our programs," Pooler said. "He will bring great enthusiasm and commitment to our mission, institution, and student-athletes.

"His passion for the game and helping young people succeed was evident during our conversations," Pooler added. "His ability to recruit at a high level will be a huge asset that should have an immediate impact on our program. I look forward to seeing our highly successful student-athletes learn and grow under his leadership."

Over the last five years, Knox has assisted the Georgia Gwinnett tennis programs, who have won a combined nine NAIA national championships. His duties while at Georgia Gwinnett included recruiting, assisting with team practices, in-match coaching as well as other day-to-day activities.

During the same time frame, Knox served as a tennis professional at the YMCA Buckhead in Atlanta where he provided individual and group instruction as well as ran tournaments and special events.

Knox played collegiately at the Northwest-Shoals Community College where he was an all-American. Following Northwest-Shoals, Knox transferred to the University of Memphis and ultimately graduated from the University of Alabama.

"I look forward to helping our young men and women achieve their team and personal goals in tennis, but most importantly in life," Knox said. "We have a lot of work to do and I'm excited to get started."

Lindsey Wilson opens its 2019 season on Friday, Feb. 15, as the Blue Raiders travel to Reinhardt (Ga.) in Waleska, Georgia.
