LWC Basketball continues MSC play at home against Pikeville

The Lindsey Wilson women and men's basketball teams are set to continue Mid-South Conference play against Pikeville (KY) on Saturday at Biggers Sports Center, 360 Spickard Drive, Columbia, KY. The women's team tips off at 2CT followed by the men at 4pmCT.


The No. 21-ranked women (11-6, 2-2 MSC) are coming off a tough 79-77 defeat to No. 7-ranked Shawnee State (Ohio) on Thursday night, in what was a hard-fought battle that came down to the final possessions.

Reagan Turner led the offensive effort for the Blue Raiders posting a career-best 29 points, shooting 9-for-17. Turner chipped in four assists and two steals as well. J'Nayah Hall recorded 20 points while Jynea Harris tallied 10 points to round out the Blue Raiders who scored in double figures. Gerda Paulauskaite dominated the glass recording 16 rebounds on the night.

As a team, the Blue Raiders rank ninth in NAIA Division I in offensive rebounds per game (15.8) as well as rank 11th in total rebound margin (7.8).

As for the individual efforts, Paulauskaite ranks No. 7 in both total blocks (40) and blocks per game (2.5). Paulauskaite's performance this season has also put her atop the MSC in rebounds (131) and blocks.

Turner ranks ninth in NAIA Division I in points per game with an average of 18.82, which is good for the top spot in the MSC ranks.

Pikeville (14-6, 3-1 MSC) is visiting Biggers Sports Center on a three-game winning streak. The Bears last played on Thursday where they defeated Cumberland (Tenn.) 71-67 at home. The Bears are led by Mary Englert who averages 12.3 points and 2.2 assists per game. Pikeville ranks ninth in NAIA Division I in total blocks with 76 so far this season.

Saturday's matchup is the 67th game between the two programs. Lindsey Wilson holds a 49-17 record against Pikeville. The last time the two teams met was on February 8, 2018, where the Blue Raiders defeated the Bears 69-55 on the road.

Lindsey Wilson men's basketball (10-9, 1-3 MSC) returns to action after defeating Shawnee State 84-67 in the MSC home opener. Matthew Eldridge led the Blue Raiders with 23 points and 12 rebounds for his second double-double of the season. JR Adams chipped In with 16 points, five assists, two blocks, and two steals.

As a team, the Blue Raiders defense ranks in the top-10 in NAIA in three-point field goal percentage defense (.293), field goal percentage defense (.391), while holding to opponents to an average of 67.1 points per game.

Pikeville (16-3, 3-1 MSC) returns to action after a 77-70 over Cumberland (Tenn.) on Thursday. Jayvian Delacruz leads the bears averaging 23.7 points and 5.6 rebounds per game. Delacruz ranks first in NAIA in total scoring with 450 points and 10th in field goal percentage, shooting 59.6 percent.

As a team, Pikeville ranks fourth in total scoring offense with 1,787 points, averaging 94.1 points per game.

Saturday's matchup marks 71st meeting, with Lindsey Wilson leading overall 37-33. The last matchup occurred in 2018, in which Pikeville defeated the Blue Raiders 107-77.
