LWC Wrestling defeats Bellarmine 27-12

The Lindsey Wilson (4-2) wrestling team defeated NCAA Division II member Bellarmine (Ky.) 27-12 on Thursday night in what is their first of three straight dual meets. On the night the Blue Raiders would record two pins, one technical fall, one major decision and two decision victories as they were able to win six-of- nine matches for the dual.


Cagen Wallace got the Blue Raiders off to a quick start in the match when he produced a dominating 16-0 technical fall victory over Brandon Lucas. Lindsey Wilson would carry momentum into the second match when Brady Moser (No. 12 at 133 NAIA) pinned Casey Ragle to the mat in 4:58, giving the Blue Raiders a quick 11-0 lead.

Neither team was able to send out a wrestler at the 141-pound weight class as Bellarmine would manage to cut into the LWC lead when Gage Branson (No. 8 at 149 NCAA DII) pinned Austin Ramsey.

Lindsey Wilson was able to get back on track when they were able to win the next three matches to take a 21-6 lead with three bouts remaining.

Mark Taijeron controlled his match on way to an 8-4 decision over Eric Beck. Derrick Smallwood (No. 9 at 157 NAIA) won in domination fashion, wrestling up a weight class for the Blue Raiders, as he produced a 13-3 major decision victory over Gavin Grime at 165-pounds. Cole Overman then took down Andy Dobben on a close 6-4 decision.

At 184-pounds Bellarmine's Andrew Sams picked up a 6-3 decision over Lucas Miozza (No. 9 at 184 NAIA).

Avery Buckman (No. 20 at 197 NAIA) recorded the Blue Raiders final win of the night when he was able to pin Brett Bryant in 4:43. Brian Stears took down Raynel Brown in the heavyweight match on a 3-0 decision but the Blue Raiders would take the match 27-12.

Lindsey Wilson hits the mats again on December 15th when they kick off Mid-South Conference action against Southeastern (Fla.) in Lakeland, Florida.
