Lindsey Wilson men's basketball defeats Central Penn 63-56 By Christopher Coombs The Lindsey Wilson men's basketball team held on to defeat Central Penn 63-56 on Friday night at Biggers Sports Center. The game featured a combined 40 turnovers and 27 steals as the Blue Raiders committed 22 turnovers and recorded 14 steals. The Blue Raiders are back in action on Monday, December 3, 2018, when they take on Simmons (KY) at 7pmCT in Biggers Sports Center, 360 Spickard Drive, Columbia, KY. Lindsey Wilson (4-4) finished the game shooting 47.3 percent from the field as they were able to limit the Knights (2-4) to just a 36.5 shooting percentage. Fredens Deneus recorded a double-double after managing a career-high 15 points and 15 rebounds. Two other Blue Raiders were on double figures as Kel Stotts scored a game-high 18 points and JR Adams added 14. Pierre Lys totaled four steals for the contests, a career-high. Four of the game's first five possessions resulted in turnovers as Payton Cundiff and Deneus picked up steals for the Blue Raiders but after Stotts scored the game's first points, Central Penn would manage a 9-2 run. Lindsey Wilson would then find their rhythm on both ends of the court making a 16-2 run that was capped off by a Adam's three to take a 18-11 lead with 11:49 to play. Both teams would struggle from the field over the next six minutes of action as the Blue Raiders committed five turnovers and converted on just 2-of-7 shots from the field. The Knight made just 2-of-9 of their field goal attempts over the span and committed two turnovers. The Blue Raiders would close out the half outscoring the Knight 11-8 to take a 33-23 lead at halftime. Adams paced Lindsey Wilson with 12 points as Deneus followed closely with 10 of his own. Deneus and Adams both added two steal over the first 20 minutes of play. Lindsey Wilson and Central Penn opened the second half with high-intensity that led to the Blue Raiders outscoring the Knights 18-16 as LWC managed to lead 51-39 with 12:13 to play. Both teams would struggle to find an offensive rhythm over the next 2:23 of play but Stotts would knock down a three pointer to break the drought. Deneus would extend the Blue Raiders to their largest lead of the game, an 18 point advantage, at 57-39 on their next possession when he drove hard to the basket and picked up a three point play after being fouled on the made layup. Central Penn would trim the Blue Raiders lead to 12 points when they managed to outscore the Blue Raiders 11-5 with 2:36 to play. Two turnovers and two empty possessions by the Blue Raiders gave the Knights hope as they were able to capitalize on the Blue Raider mistakes, cutting the LWC lead to 8 points with 55.5 second on the clock. Lindsey Wilson would again turn the ball over on their next possession when Adams was trapped at half court but Adams bounced back and quickly managed a steal of his own moments later. Central Penn's efforts over the final half minute of the game would come up short as the Blue Raiders were able to hold on to a seven point win at 63-56. Tyler White scored a team-high 13 points for the Knights as Joel Zola led the team with nine rebounds. This story was posted on 2018-12-01 09:25:24
