Recycling Trailer Pickups in Temporary Changes

Recycling is not easy - some things are needed in order to help the County make it work as well as possible. The Recycling Center, located at 62 Service Drive, is still in operation and will continue to accept recyclables during regular business hours 7am-3pmCT.

By Deputy Adair CJE Andrea Waggener

There will be a temporary change to the collection of recyclable materials by the Adair County Recycling Center. There have been some requests that the recycling trailers in some local parking lots be removed due to misuse and scattered garbage.

The new Recycling Supervisor Christian Ford is working on a new trailer pickup schedule and the location of the trailers will be announced at a later date.

The misuse of the trailers has gotten much worse recently and a majority of what is being collected in the trailers is not recyclable. Unfortunately, approximately 80-percent of what is disposed of in the trailers is then taken to the Transfer Station because it is household garbage and has contaminated the other recyclable goods. Often, the trailers are not full and bags of trash/recycling are left outside of the trailers. The trash then blows all over the parking lot and is unacceptable for the businesses which have graciously allowed the trailers to be placed on their property.

We appreciate all of the citizens in our community who choose to recycle as we understand that it is not always easy. Please remember that cardboard should be broken down and the slots of the trailers used. Boxes that haven't been broken down take up additional space in the trailers and make is difficult for others to use. Plastic bottles, milk jugs, aluminum cans, etc. should be rinsed out prior to disposal.

We apologize for any inconvenience; however, the Recycling Center, located at 62 Service Drive is still in operation and will continue to accept recyclables during regular business hours, 7am-3pmCT. After hours there is a recycling trailer available for use at the center, as well as a bay that is open with yellow containers for use.
