LWC Football over CU 21-4 in Battle of Highway 55 By Christopher Coombs Campbellsville, KY - The Lindsey Wilson football team defeated Campbellsville University 21-4 in the Battle of Highway 55 on Saturday afternoon at Finley Stadium on the campus of Campbellsville University. The Blue Raiders (6-3, 3-2 MSC) defense managed to produce one of their best performances of the season as they caused a season-high five turnovers. Lindsey Wilson also recorded a season-high four interceptions on the day, two coming from Robert Carter and one coming from Michael DeLeon and Damani Jenkins. The Blue Raider defense did not concede any points to the CU offense in the game. Trent Mueller led the way for the Blue Raider defense after recording eight tackles, three for a loss as David Nobles and Romie Dukes both added six tackles with four coming for a loss. Nobles added two blocked field goal attempts on the day. Lindsey Wilson's offense was outgained by Campbellsville (3-6, 2-3 MSC) 268 to 344 as the Tigers held a slight 205 to 198 yard advantage through the air. LWC quarterback Cameron Dukes completed 14-of-28 passing attempts for two touchdowns as he added a 25-yard rushing touchdown. Jay Gaudlock had a team-high four reception for 77 yards as Jaylen Boyd managed 44 yards on eight rushing attempts, leading the Blue Raiders ground attack. The Lindsey Wilson offense got off to a sluggish start in the game as their first three drives of the game totaled nine plays for just 27-yards, one drive ending on a Tiger interception and another on a safety. During LWC's second drive of the game Campbellsville forced LWC to punt from their own end zone. A high snap on the play sailed out of the back of the end zone, putting the game's first points on the board as Campbellsville would record the safety to take a 2-0 lead. The Lindsey Wilson defensive and special teams units were able to cause havoc on Campbellsville's efforts to score in the quarter. After punting the ball to the Tigers with 10:51 left in the quarter, Campbellsville would string together an eight play drive to the Lindsey Wilson 23-yard line. Attempting a field goal on fourth down, Nobles broke through the line, blocking the attempt. On the ensuing Blue Raider possession, Dukes' pass was intercepted by Bjay Pelt but the LWC defense forced a quick three and out giving the ball back to Lindsey Wilson with 5:29 left in the quarter. The Blue Raider offense would put together a nine play, 60-yard scoring drive on the possession. Dukes completed 3-of-4 passes while adding rushes of three and six yards before capping off the drive with a 25-yard rushing touchdown. Campbellsville's next drive would reach the LWC 32 yard-line and extended into the second quarter. On the first play of the quarter Cameron Thurman got to the quarterback, recording a sack on the play for a loss of three yards. On 3rd and 11 a host of Blue Raiders busted through the CU offensive line, reaching the quarterback and causing a sack-fumble that was recovered by the Blue Raiders Joe Lewis. Lindsey Wilson put seven more points on the board on the next drive after starting on their own 45-yardline. On a trick play, LWC's Darius Clark completed a pass to Dukes who was able to pick up 16-yards, moving the ball to the Tigers 39-yard line. The Blue Raiders would later elect to go for it on 4th-and-9 from Campbellsville's 38-yard line. Dukes came under pressure on the play and was forced to dump the ball off to Darius Clark. Clark broke through a few Campbellsville arm tackles and was able to jet down the sideline 38-yards for the score, increasing LWC's lead to 14-2 with 11:56 left in the half. The Blue Raider defense would shut down the Campbellsville offense on their three final drive of the half. Lindsey Wilson would force a punt on the next Tiger drive. After a quick three-and-out by the LWC offense, Campbellsville would drive all the way to Lindsey Wilson's 15-yard line before attempting a field goal. Nobles and the special teams unit would come up with their second field goal block of the day when Nobles was again able to break through the line, disrupting the Tiger attempt. Campbellsville's defense would force the Blue Raiders into their third 3-and-out of the day. After Lindsey Wilson punted, the Tigers took over at their 46-yard line and managed to drive all the way to the Lindsey Wilson 27-yard line before Josh Davis' pass was intercepted by Michael DeLeon and returned 32-yards to the LWC 36-yard line with just 24 seconds left in the half. Dukes was sacked on the next play, ending the half with the Blue Raiders leading 14-2. The second half started with the LWC defense continuing their effort and forcing another turnover when Josh Davis was picked off for the second time of the day. Lindsey Wilson's defensive line caused pressure on Campbellsville QB Davis whose pass was deflected straight up in the air by Mueller and caught by Jenkins. The Blue Raider offense would drive all the way to the Campbellsville two yard line before the drive came to an end when Dukes was sacked by Marcus McCants on fourth down, turning the ball over to Campbellsville at their own seven-yard line. After an empty possession by Campbellsville, the Blue Raiders would increase the lead to 21-2 when Cam Wyche scored on a nine-yard touchdown pass from Dukes. The drive started at the Blue Raiders on ten-yard line. LWC faced a third and nine from their own 11-yard line when Dukes connected with Gaudlock for 65-yards, moving the ball all the way to the CU 25 yard line. Seven plays later Dukes would find Wyche in the end zone for the score with 2:19 left in the third quarter. Campbellsville's next drive would last 11 plays, traveling 57 yards but would end when the Blue Raiders were able to record their fifth turnover of the game. Davis' pass was intercepted by Carter at the Lindsey Wilson three-yard line. After moving the ball away from their own end zone to the 15-yard line, the drive stalled out and the Blue Raiders were forced to punt the ball away. Campbellsville would block the punt out of the corner of the end zone, resulting in the Tigers second safety of the day with 11:29 left in the game. The Blue Raider defense would stop Campbellsville on their final two possessions of the game. The Tigers would use 23 plays across their two final drives that chewed up 10:03 of the play clock but LWC would force stops on the possessions before Dukes would take one final knee to run out the remaining 27 seconds on the clock. Lindsey Wilson is back in action at 1:30pmCT on Saturday November 10, when they play host to Kentucky Christian at Blue Raider Stadium, 928 Russell Road, Columbia, KY.
