Letter from Debbie Selby: Another successful Treats on the Town

By Debbie Selby

We have another successful Treats On The Town in the history book. I want to sincerely thank everyone who participated in any way. Thank you to the Columbia Police Department for blocking off the square in order to have a safe environment for the children.

I cannot put into words the gratitude I would like to extend to all the businesses, county and city officials along with all other organizations that distributed candy and made this event successful.

We saw a lot of happy smiling faces and the crowd convinced me it was a successful event.

I apologize for the delay in the flow of the crowd but with so many on the square and others standing in line to get on the square, a definite bottleneck was experienced.

Next year we will alleviate this problem by having a different setup for those passing out candy. Also, thank you to the Columbia-Adair County Jaycees for the cotton candy. I understand due to the changing of the date, they were really pushed to get 1,600 bags of cotton candy made which is a highlight of Treats On The Town.

I hope I don't leave anyone out but a list of those who participated are as follows: the Adair County High School Academic Team, Bank of Columbia, Durham & Zornes, Trinity UMC, Morgan-Smith Industries, Bam Carney, Adair County Ambulance Service, Walmart, Goodwill, Nanwood Market, Ponzi's Pizza, Adair County FFA, First and Farmers Bank, United Citizens Bank, June Parson, Melson Ridge Separate Baptist Church, Cash Express, 3trees Church, United Country Real Estate, A+ Termite Control, Bearwallow UMC, Personal Touch Home Health, JBS Case Management, Barger Insurance, Benchmark Home Health, WAIN Radio, Rumors Hair Salon, Community Trust Bank, Scotty Neat, Josh Brockman, Satellite Solutions, Columbia Baptist Church, Gale Cowan, Grimsley's, Sheriff Harrison Moss, Judge Michael Stephens, Landon Edwards, County Clerk Lisa Greer, County Attorney Jennifer Hutchison, Jailer Joey White, and the Adair County Library.

I apologize if I left anyone out because we did have several register at the last minute. If you patronize any of theses businesses or see any of the individuals listed above, please thank them for their participation and community service. --Debbie Selby
