LWC Volleyball sweeps matches against Xavier and Fisk

The Lindsey Wilson volleyball team played two matches at Biggers Sports Center on Friday where they were able to produce 3-0 sweeps over both Xavier (La.) and Fisk (Tenn.). With the wins the Blue Raiders move to 22-3 on the season.

Lindsey Wilson vs. Xavier:


The Blue Raiders used a .362 hitting percentage and 44 kills to move past Xavier in straight sets. LWC recorded 10 blocks in the match adding eight service aces while limiting the Golden Nuggets to a .067 hitting percentage and 26 kills.

Sarah Cruz would lead the LWC attack after recording 13 kills as Klara Mikelova would add 11 of her own. Autumn Proctor tallied 33 assists in the match as Lilo Larzelere picked up 11 digs.

Lindsey Wilson would build a big 20-12 lead in the first set before Xavier battled their way back to trail the Blue Raiders 22-17. From there Lindsey Wilson was able to close thing out after they scored the final three straight points of the set. The Blue Raiders used a .425 hitting percentage in the first set as Burke led the way with five kills as Mikelova added four.

The second set, the Blue Raiders were able to force the Golden Nuggets into a -.129 hitting percentage as they managed a .242 hitting percentage of their own. Lindsey Wilson would take the set, 25-16.

Xavier would challenge the Blue Raiders in the final frame forcing a 10-10 tie late in the action. However, LWC would close out the set on a 15-4 run to win the set 25-14 and take the match in straight sets 3-0.

Kayla Black led the Golden Nuggets with 11 kills as Eva Le Guillou had 21 assists and Taylor Ducros recorded 11 digs.

Lindsey Wilson vs. Fisk:
Lindsey Wilson would carry momentum into their second match of the night against Fisk. The Blue Raiders would produce a .538 hitting percentage while limiting the Bulldogs to hitting just .031 for the match. LWC would tallied 49 kills to Fisk's 14 as Mikelova would record a match-high 14 kills. Proctor had 24 assists as Abby Grubbs added 15 and Larzelere led the team with 12 digs.

The Blue Raider would hit an even .500 in the first set as Fisk would trail 7-10 early, but the Blue Raiders would find their stride and cruse to a 25-11 win. LWC would never trail in the second set, and again would lead 10-7 before closing out the second set on a 15-1 run to win 25-8.

The third and final set of the night was all LWC. The Blue Raiders hit .552 and limited the Bulldogs to a -.074 hitting percentage. Lindsey Wilson would win the set 25-11 and take the match 3-0.

Skye Faucher led Fisk with six kills as Brittany Henderson added 12 assists on the night.
