Recovery story: thanks for calling the police

His Adair County family connections celebrate this five-year anniversary with Zachary and wish him a lifetime of success!

By Zachary Lynn

Gratitude is an action word! Just over five years ago I was arrested on charges that would change my life. I didn't see it then, but today I am grateful for that teller who called the police!

This night five years ago I was in CDC so sick that I don't think I got out of bed for about 10 days. At my lowest point I had stolen a check from someone and then went to the bank to cash it.

The teller knew the person and called the police.

Story telling sessions may be on the schedule

2025-01-30 - Downtown Columbia, KY - Photo by Linda Waggener, ColumbiaMagazine.com.
Mike Watson, at left, and Billy Joe Fudge, at right, shared ideas at the Adair County Genealogy & History Research Center this week. Billy Joe believes a regular round table story telling session would be a good idea. The Center is located at 307 Greensburg Street beside the Adair County Public Library in Columbia, KY. Along that line, the writer Steve Kickert is among those who want to see stories shared. He would like to see a local group meet regularly, take a prompt of an idea, write on it for a few minutes, then share what they wrote on the subject.

Lindsey Wilson College has joined a national effort to improve college students' success.

The college has joined the Gardner Institute's Transforming the Foundational Postsecondary Experience initiative. Launched in fall 2023, Transforming the Foundational Postsecondary Experience aims to close performance gaps and improve student success in ways that move toward eliminating factors such as ZIP codes as the best predictors of who graduates.

The initiative is partially funded by support from Ascendium Education Group, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, ECMC Foundation, Lumina Foundation and The Kresge Foundation.

The Gardner Institute initiative started with 11 schools, and Lindsey Wilson is among nine additional schools - five of which are from Kentucky - chosen to participate in the project.
