Adair Co. Schools recognized for workplace safety From Janet Creech Lexington, KY - The Destiny Awards are presented annually by KEMI to policyholders best exemplifying KEMI's motto, "Control your own destiny." The awards symbolize what can be accomplished when organizations work together to improve workplace safety. Policyholders earning the KEMI Destiny Award effectively demonstrate to KEMI their ability to manage a formal safety program, provide on-site training and regular safety meetings for employees, and display an ongoing commitment to safety from all levels throughout their organizations. Adair County Schools, a three-time recipient, was selected after meeting a stringent set of criteria set forth by KEMI. According to Administrative Assistant to Superintendent/Human Resource Director Carolee Lloyd, "Safety plays a fundamental role in shaping the culture of the Adair County School District by fostering an environment where students, staff, and the community feel secure and supported. A strong safety culture promotes physical, emotional, and psychological well-being, allowing students to focus on learning and personal development. Lloyd continued, "It includes proactive measures like safety protocols, regular drills, and mental health resources to ensure that the school is prepared for various challenges. When safety is a core value, it encourages trust, respect, and accountability, reinforcing a positive and inclusive educational atmosphere where everyone feels valued and protected." Record number of apprentices active in training programs From Jill Midkiff/Kevin Kinnaird Frankfort, KY - On November 18, 2024, Gov. Andy Beshear announced that a record number of Kentuckians are actively pursuing pathways to good, high-paying jobs across the commonwealth through registered apprenticeship programs. As this week marks the 10th anniversary of National Apprenticeship Week, Gov. Beshear touted statistics from the Kentucky Center for Statistics (KYSTATS) and the Office of Employer and Apprenticeship Services that show Kentucky logged 6,639 active apprentices during federal fiscal year 2023 - a record high for a single year. That number exceeds the previous year's total by 15% and more than doubles the number of active apprentices recorded a decade earlier. "Kentucky's economy is on fire, and the demand for highly skilled workers right now is surpassing anything we could have ever imagined," said Gov. Beshear. "I encourage any Kentuckian who's just starting out or maybe searching for a new career to consider enrolling in a registered apprenticeship program, which allows you to cash a paycheck while learning a marketable new skill." CMC expanding essential healthcare services to Adair Co. From Bart Logsdon Community Medical Care (CMC), a long-standing nonprofit dedicated to providing healthcare support to seniors and working adults in need, is expanding its reach to Adair County. With the opening of its second remote office, CMC Adair, the organization aims to bring vital healthcare services and prescription assistance to qualified seniors and adults in Adair County, beginning in January 2025. For over 20 years, CMC has been a lifeline in Barren County, helping thousands access life-saving prescription medications and essential healthcare. Since joining the T.J. Community Mission Foundation (TJCMF) in 2022, CMC has furthered its mission to serve even more Kentuckians in need. After opening CMC Metcalfe in January 2024, CMC Adair is the next step in that journey, bringing essential resources to an underserved community and helping those who might otherwise go without crucial healthcare support. Through CMC Adair, qualifying Adair County residents, including seniors (65 and older), working adults (18-64), and adults aged 60-64 on disability, will have access to assistance with high prescription costs, dentures, hearing aids, and doctors' appointments with minimal co-pays. This new initiative will help reduce out-of-pocket healthcare expenses, easing the financial burden for individuals and families already struggling to make ends meet.
