Silent City Tour 2024 will be October 14 From Mike Watson The Annual Silent City tour of the Columbia Cemetery is scheduled for 5pmCT on Monday, October 14, 2024. We have a great lineup for this Tour with the following individuals portraying interesting residents of the cemetery. The presenters include: Dave Thomas, LeeAnn Jessee & Ellen Zornes, Richard Phelps, Mike Watson, and more. The Columbia Cemetery was established prior to the year 1812 and was outside the limits of town. Over the past two centuries land has been acquired and the cemetery expanded. Many individuals were interred here, all with interesting stories that could be told. We touch upon just a handful of these individuals each October. The first Silent City Tour was organized by the Adair County Genealogical Society with assistance of the Adair County Public Library in 2007, and we have not missed a single year--including during the pandemic. There is no charge for any of our tours--the public is always welcome. We ask that guests park at the Adair County Public Library parking lot, 307 Greensburg Street, Columbia, KY, or along the route to the cemetery. We traditionally meet, sign in, then stroll as a group to the beginning point of the Tour. For those with physical issues, park at the Justice Center parking lot or the Farmer's Market lot and walk up to the old section of the cemetery with those who walk from the library. For more information, email adairgenealogy@gmail.com or call 270-380-1024. 2024-10-01 09:19:14 | Comments | Printable version
