Overexposure to the sun can cause keratitis, an inflammation of the cornea that can make our eyes feel as if we have sand in them for 24 to 48 hours.

Possible financial help for folks with damaged fences

Guy Babbin sends word that there is a possibility for financial help with damaged fencing resulting from the recent storms, if enough damage occurred locally to meet the threshold for an official declaration.

David Claycomb with the Adair County Farm Service Agency says that, thankfully, there haven't been a lot of reports of damage so far from the last round of storms, but that they do want to document reports of damage to see if there is enough need to qualify for assistance programs in the county.

David says, "If farmers had significant damage to fences around crops or pasture, they should definitely call and let us know" by calling the Adair County Farm Service Agency at 270-384-6431, Extension 2.

Update, 5/29: There are a lot of very helpful programs housed in the Adair County Service Center, and a previous version of this article had instructions to contact the wrong office. We apologize for the confusion.

Winds have blown Memorial Day flowers into ditch lines

By Mike Watson

The high winds and rain of this Memorial Day weekend have caused some damage to floral tributes in many cemeteries. If you visited cemeteries before the Sunday evening or Sunday night storms, you may wish to check for damage both to the physical cemetery as well as flowers that have been blown off and been lodged in fences, etc.

Haven Hill and Columbia City cemeteries both have head-stone arrangements scattered about and in ditch lines.

From Mike Keltner, Director
Adair Co. Emergency Management

At 20:53 on the evening of Monday, May 27, 2024, Adair County E-911 dispatched multiple response agencies to a car submerged in water in the Knifley Community of Adair County. During the initial response the exact location and the number of occupants was unknown.

Breeding Fire Department TRT, Campbellsville Fire Rescue, and Adair EM responded with personnel and watercraft. Knifley Fire Department, Adair EMS, Adair Sheriff Office, and KY Dept of Fish and Wildlife responded with personnel. Columbia - Adair County Fire Department responded with the tower / ladder truck and personnel.

At the same time the vehicle was located by searchers, Adair 911 received a call from the owner stating that the vehicle was unoccupied. The vehicle will have to remain in place until flood waters recede.

This is a reminder to report all incidents that could cause such a response. Earlier in the day two kayaks had been lost by the owner and were reported for this very reason.

Thank You to all agencies and Adair E-911 for the coordination and response.
