By Gerard Flanagan, news writer and photographer

What has been the role and view of women over the course of 2,000 years?

Dr. Joe Early's ninth book, "Because of Eve: Historical and Theological Survey of the Subjugation of Women in the Christian Tradition," examines how the church and Christian men have sought to define women and the roles women must play within the church, home, and society for more than 2,000 years -- from the Old Testament to the present day.

Taylor County water affected by storms

From Larry J. Smith

Taylor County was on a conserve water basis after the storms because the water treatment plant lost power, then we lost power at the Green River Lake pump station on Smith Ridge. The power to the treatment plant was restored on Saturday morning, and power to the pumps at Green River was restored just before lunchtime.

Our county along with others have been declared at state of an emergency. Taylor County Judge Executive Barry Smith and Governor Andy Beshear have been in contact over the issues.

Letter: Just wondering about the bird in the background

Billy Joe Fudge writes:
Is that a Crow, Blackbird, Grackle, etc. in the background? Hard to say from the photo.
Thanks for asking. That's a Boat-tailed Grackle in the blurred background. There are so many of them along the shores of Lake Tohopekaliga that it was tough to get a photo without one.

Carol Perkins: The Wind Beneath My Tree

Previous Column: Get That Tip and Let'er Rip

By Carol Perkins

The sound of thunder cracked throughout the house except it wasn't thunder. It was the sound of a huge limb from the trunk of a pine tree falling across our front porch, landing on the roof and against the porch railings. The limb was the size of a tree itself. The only thing saving the front window was the porch. In the backyard, another tree fell to the ground like a feather. Guy had been wanting it gone. Mother Nature helped him get his wish.

Behind us, a neighbor's large outbuilding landed in another neighbor's yard. Blown off the foundation. Winds at seventy miles an hour command respect.

Phillip Coffey - Bazooka Gum Post

Bazooka Gum Post by Phillip Coffey

Got much of my stored wisdom from reading messages of
Bazooka Joe bubble gum enclosures inside.

Walking to a one room school - sticking the paper within My right pocket.

Respect for all the flora and fauna seen near Keltner-town Long before I could read very well.

Took all of the sagacity of the leaflets in my mind to Sparksville Grade Center - leaving home long before daylight in the Wintertime.

Moved to Adair County Freshman class on Frazier hill about 1967.

Taking on a different route but never getting much further than Trigonometry in my Senior year.

Still chewing on the same dried bubble gum removed each morning From my chilled bedroom host.
