Laymon Avery, 82, Green County, KY (1940-2023) Laymon Avery of Greensburg, Kentucky, son of the late Richard Avery and Maude Meredith Avery, was born on Sunday, June 30, 1940 in Hart County, Kentucky and departed this life on Wednesday, February 22, 2023 at his home. He was 82 years, 7 months, and 23 days of age. He had made a profession of faith in Christ and was a member of the Lone Oak Baptist Church in Hart County. He was a Vietnam Veteran having served in the United States Army as Military Police from 1963 until 1969. He went on to retire from the Department of the Army and as a Civil Service Supervisor in Fort Knox on May 3, 1993. He completed four years at Greensburg High School in 1945. He then went to Campbellsville Junior College and graduated in 1946. While at college, he met Charlotte Case and began dating. Cumberland Co. Health Department awarded top in district From Jeff Neagle Lake Cumberland District Health Department The Cumberland County Health Department is the winner of the 2022 County Health Center of Excellence award. The Lake Cumberland District is comprised of ten counties in southern Kentucky. Throughout the year, the ten counties are measured by a variety of standards that the district established for local departments. These criteria include areas such as productivity, patient satisfaction, utilization review, show rates and collections. This year, Cumberland County Health Department finished at the top of the rankings. "We are very proud to announce that Cumberland County won this year's County Health Center of Excellence," said LCDHD Director Amy Tomlinson. "This is a very competitive award and the staff there have done a great job." This marks the first time the Cumberland County Health Department has won the award.
