June is Dairy Month in Kentucky

From Madison Pergrem

Frankfort, KY - Commissioner of Agriculture Jonathan Shell joined dairy industry representatives and dairy producers on Tuesday, June 3, 2025, to sign a proclamation honoring the dairy industry and June as Dairy Month in Kentucky. The proclamation was signed during Dairy Night at the Ballgame with the Bowling Green Hot Rods.

"Kentucky's dairy industry is one of the many reasons Kentucky agriculture is a shining example for others across the country," Commissioner Shell said. "June is a perfect time to honor these hard-working individuals and an industry that brings us wholesome, delicious, and nutritious products each and every day. Through the years, our dairy partners, as a group, have made the necessary changes to adapt to a changing agricultural environment. For that and the products the industry provides, I'm happy to declare June as Dairy Month in Kentucky."

Like the cattle industry, the dairy cattle industry decreased slightly in 2025, from 43,000 milk cows the previous years to 41,000 at the beginning of January. Kentucky's 41,000 dairy cows produce milk - the Official Beverage of Kentucky since 2005 - along with ice cream, artisan cheeses, and other tasty dairy products. Dairy farmers help provide Kentucky families with the calcium, protein, vitamins, and minerals they need to lead an active and healthy lifestyle.

A Week in Mexico deepens LWC students' passion for serving

From Duane Bonifer

For a group of Lindsey Wilson College students, a week of service in Mexico was a life-changing experience. Four Lindsey Wilson Bonner Scholars and two staff members spent seven days in May in Chapala, Mexico, where they worked with an orphanage that serves the city of about 50,000 in the state of Jalisco.

The trip was part of the students' preparation for their senior year as Bonner Scholars, a Lindsey Wilson group dedicated to service learning. While in western Mexico, the group worked with Oak Life School of Orphan Care and Love in Action Center for Children, where they helped organize and renovate a bazaar that supports the mission efforts. It was the second consecutive year the Lindsey Wilson Bonner Scholars have worked with the mission groups.

"Through our trip, I learned to reflect on communities out of my own," said Shaye Anthony '26, a biology and psychophysiology major from Somerset, Kentucky. "Culture in Chapala is beautiful and rich. The people there are so very genuine, and the girls I met at Love in Action will forever follow me in my life. In the end, I felt more open to people, despite my introverted self, and my passion for serving people has never felt stronger."

Basketball: Lady Indians win 2 at BCHS on Tuesday

By Trey Stephens, Staff Writer

The Adair County Lady Indians have started the 2025 summer ball season 2-0, with a pair of quality wins at Boyle County High School on Tuesday, June 3, 2025.

The first win for Adair County was a 49-32 rout of Madison Southern, a team that finished mid-pack of a top-heavy 11th Region that had 5 teams with 25+ wins. The second win for Adair County was a much closer 55-53 win over Pulaski County.

The Lady Maroons had the 4th most wins in the 12th region last year, including a win over a very tough Barren County team (26-6) that was a serious 4th Region contender.

Even though we are a long way from the regular season and early into summer ball, wins against a quality team like Pulaski County--who only graduated one senior from last year's squad--is yet another indication that the Lady Indians are trending in the right direction to continue climbing the 5th Region ladder.
