Water rescue in Gradyville

Note: Click headline to see photos and a short video from Betsy

From Betsy Fausnaugh

An elderly gentleman tried crossing the flooded waters of Cool Springs Creek on Old Gradyville Road this afternoon. His truck was swept into the ditch. Water was rising rapidly and moving very swiftly, and the water finally turned the truck on its side.

The man evacuated, still waiting on rescue. Randy Hatcher and the Adair County Sheriff were able to get a rope with a life vest out to him. My husband, Gary Fausnaugh, happens to be retired from the Coast Guard, and we still had his float vest. The two rescuers were able to pull the stranded man back to safe turf.

From Donna Rieder

Saw the road closures on CM. Just wanted to let folks know that water is over the road on the Columbia side of the bridge at the Sam Coffey Hole, and water is up to and covering the bridge at Clifty Creek Farm.

I'm hanging in the barn with all the new baby goats! Fancy had quads last night, and the firstborn is teeny tiny. We named him Peanut!

LWC Conference spotlights LWC Students Academic Diversity

From Duane Bonifer

Themes from classic pieces of modern literature, current events, a popular 1980s television show, and original works of fiction, poetry and prose were on display at the 2025 Dr. Kara Mollis Conference on Women's and Gender Studies, held Wednesday, April 2, at Lindsey Wilson College.

The interdisciplinary conference, sponsored by the Lindsey Wilson Women's and Gender Studies Program, annually features academic projects by Lindsey Wilson students that focus on a broad range of gender issues. This year's conference had four sessions, along with a brown-bag lunch that included a far-ranging conversation on "Masculinity, Manhood and the American State."

"It's just so impressive how thoughtfully our students talked about sensitive issues and topics in a very inclusive way," said English professor Rachel Carr '13, who is the college's women and gender studies program coordinator and helped organize this year's conference. "What's especially exciting was to hear students talk about how they discovered their passion and developed their leadership skills through their research projects for the conference."

April is National Distracted Driving Awareness Month

From Marla Marrs

Frankfort, KY - For National Distracted Driving Awareness Month this April, Team Kentucky and AAA East Central are partnering to drive home a life-saving message for all motorists: Buckle up, phone down.

Officials with the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet's Office of Highway Safety, Kentucky State Police (KSP) and AAA East Central joined local leaders and a victims' advocate on April 2, 2025, during an event at the Simpsonville Rest Area to share personal stories and emphasize the dangers of distracted driving.

"Driving distracted puts your life - and the lives of everyone around you - at risk. We want every Kentuckian and every visitor traveling through our commonwealth to make it home safely," said Gov. Andy Beshear. "Let's all do the right thing when we're behind the wheel. Put the phone down and focus on the road. It's a simple choice that saves lives."

As part of this month's awareness effort, KSP will participate in the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's high-visibility enforcement campaign, "Put the Phone Away or Pay," which runs next week, April 7-13, 2025. This nationwide initiative is designed to reduce distracted driving through increased enforcement and public awareness.
