Basketball: Indians defeat Eagles Monday, host Hawks Tuesday

On Monday, February 3, 2025, the Adair County Indians bested the Evangel Christian Eagles 69-51 at home in what was the 10th straight win for the team.

Connor Loy led the way in scoring with 24 for the team, followed by Isaiah Cochran with 22. Loy also led the team in rebounds, bringing down 8, followed again by Cochran who had 6. As a unit, the team shot the ball very well in this outing, going 57% from the floor and 50% from beyond the three point arc. This winning streak now surpasses the 9-game streak set last season and is the longest since the 2016-2017 season where the Indians bit off 24 straight.

The Adair County Indians are back in action tonight as they host the Monroe County Hawks in the opener of the Homecoming Boys' and Girls' doubleheader. Tipoff is set for 5:30pmCT on Tuesday, February 4, 2025, in John Burr Memorial Gymnasium, 526 Indian Drive, Columbia, KY. Tickets are available at hometownticketing.com.

The Hawks come in at 11-12 on the season, after a 58-48 loss to the Barren County Trojans on Saturday. The Indians will try to slow down Junior Brison Nuckols, who has led the Hawks in scoring each of their last three games. The Hawks can also be quite deceiving, as despite their record, they recently defeated Cumberland County by over 20 points, the same Panther team that defeated the Indians earlier this season.

Come and support the Indians as they seek their 11th straight win.

Basketball: Lady Indians tip off after Homecoming ceremonies

By Trey Stephens, Staff Writer

The Adair County Lady Indians Varsity Basketball team is back in action tonight, Tuesday, February 4, 2025, as they host the Monroe County Lady Hawks at home in John Burr Memorial Gymnasium, 526 Indian Drive, Columbia, KY. Tonight's boys/girls doubleheader will see the typical game order reverse as the Boys' game will lead off at 5:30pmCT, followed by Homecoming Ceremonies, and the Girls' game will be the nightcap.

The Lady Hawks come in at 13-9 off a 50-48 loss to South Warren, who the Lady Indians fell to earlier in the season by 14. This is a very close matchup of teams with Adair and Monroe sharing many mutual opponents, with somewhat similar results.

Both the Lady Indians and Lady Hawks tend to do better in high scoring games. The Lady Indians come off a game where they dumped 69 points on Pleasure Ridge Park and cruised to victory. That game marked the 4th time this season the Lady Indians have scored at least 65 points, and they are 4-0 in those games.

Monroe County gave up 67 points just two games ago. If the Lady Indians can score in high numbers and slow down a Lady Hawks offense led by a group of sophomores, the team can notch a key win against a Lady Hawks team that currently sits some 57 spots ahead of Adair County in the state wide RPI rankings.

Come out and stay for the late game as your Lady Indians host the Monroe County. Tickets are available at hometownticketing.com.

Winners of the 2024 Jim Claypool Contest announced

From Robin Hartman

Frankfort, KY - The extensive talent of Team Kentucky students was on display this month as entries for the 2024 Jim Claypool Art and Conservation Writing Contests were judged and winners were announced.

Two local area students were named Area Winners in the Jim Claypool Art Contest:
  • Area 3 - Heer Patel, Metcalfe County
  • Area 7 - Emma Gipson, Taylor County
The 2024 theme, "Protecting the Forest Together," helped students from across the Commonwealth learn more about the importance of forestry and forest health in Kentucky. The students used the knowledge they gained about the environment and transformed it into creative artwork and essays. The Kentucky Division of Conservation, in partnership with the Kentucky Association of Conservation Districts and Kentucky Farm Bureau, coordinates and provides resources to support the contest.

Students and their winning entries will be recognized at an awards ceremony in Frankfort on March 7, 2025. Their entries may be viewed at eec.ky.gov/Natural-Resources/Conservation/Pages/Art-and-Writing-Contest.aspx.
