RSVP now for Wreath Making Classes at Extension Office

On Tuesday, December 3, 2024, at 10amCT and 5pmCT, our always-looked-forward-to Wreath Making Classes will return. These wreaths make the perfect holiday door decorations!

The classes will be held at the Adair County Extension Office, 409 Fairground Street, Columbia, KY, led by Sharon Harris and Betty Knifley. Participants are encouraged to bring garden pruners and greenery to the class. However, if you don't have access to greenery, join us anyway as we always have plenty! Some ribbon for bows and decorations will be available or bring your own. Wreath forms are provided and there is no charge for the class.

Space is limited to 15 participants per class session, so be sure to RSVP by calling the Extension Office at 270-384-2317.

ACMS SBDM Council to meet Nov 26

The ACMS SBDM Council will have its regular monthly meeting at 4pmCT on Tuesday, November 26, 2024, in ACMS Room 137, 322 General John Adair Drive, Columbia KY.

This will be considered a special meeting due to the date change because of the lack of a quorum on the regular meeting date.

Boil Water Advisory issued for Pelham Branch Road area

Update: Boil Water Advisory lifted for Pelham Branch Rd area

Date Issued 11/19/2024
Time Issued 12:30 P.M.

A Boil Water Advisory is in effect for all consumers on 1770-4595 Pelham Branch Road and all side roads in between, Rocky Hill Road, Miranda Lane, and Blackberry Lane. The advisory has been issued due to a main line break.

Following such an event, the potential exists for bacteriological contamination of the water supply therefore this Boil Water Advisory has been issued as a precautionary measure. Until further notice, boil all water used for drinking and cooking, bringing the water to a rolling boil for three minutes before using.

This advisory will remain in effect until the situation has been corrected and test results have shown the water to be of an acceptable quality. For more information concerning the Boil Water Advisory, contact Bradley Miller at Columbia Adair Utilities District, 270-384-2181.

Initiative to improve healthcare access and wellness for farmers

Barbourville, KY - Officials from the Kentucky Department of Agriculture (KDA) and Appalachian Regional Healthcare (ARH) announced Monday the launch of the Farmer Care Initiative, aimed at improving healthcare access, outcomes, and overall wellness for rural farmers in central and eastern Kentucky.

Kentucky Agriculture Commissioner Jonathan Shell and ARH President and CEO Hollie Harris formalized the partnership with a proclamation signing during a Farmer Care Initiative event at Barbourville ARH Hospital.

The collaboration, the first healthcare partnership with KDA's subagency Raising Hope, underscores a mutual commitment by state and regional healthcare leadership to promote high-quality healthcare and safety resources for Kentucky's agricultural community by prioritizing accessibility and education.

Genealogical Society Christmas Social & Show-and-Tell

Adair County Genealogical Society members and friends, take note: The annual Christmas Social will be held on the regular meeting day--first Monday in the month, this year at 5pmCT on Monday, December 2, 2024, continuing until we take our leave. We will hold with our tradition of serving pot-luck. We hope to have soups, snacks, appetizers, and desserts.

Come celebrate the Season, the coming of Winter and the continuation of our obsession with ancestors, historic events, and all things that combine to make us who we are. As in the past, we will have a Show-and-Tell program. Each person is encouraged to bring one item to exhibit and talk about. It may be a family heirloom of any sort, or any artifact or item that they wish to show. Old or new, all things are significant to each.

The Adair County Genealogical Society meeting will be held at the Adair Genealogy & History Research Center, 307 Greensburg Street, Columbia, KY. For more information, email adairgenealogy@gmail.com or call 270-380-1024.

Donations needed for ACMS students at FRYSC

Ms. Kara Iqbal, Family Resource and Youth Services Centers (FRYSC) coordinator at Adair County Middle School, said "Every year, one of my favorite days is Santa Store. All of our students are invited to "shop for free" for a gift for someone outside of our school - this could be a parent, grandparent, aunt, sibling, etc.

Ruby English, 93, Taylor County, KY (1931-2024)

Ruby English, 93, of Campbellsville, daughter of the late Ollie Pendleton and Martha Gaskins Pendleton was born July 7th, 1931 in Columbia, Kentucky and departed this life on Sunday, November 17th, 2024.

She was a longtime employee of Scotts in downtown Campbellsville. She united in marriage to Mr. George English on May 7th, 1955. He preceded her in death on June 17th, 1974.

Basketball: LWC women remain unbeaten with win over Berea

The Lindsey Wilson women's basketball team defeated Berea College (KY) Monday night 55-53 in Biggers Sports Center staying perfect at 6-0 to start the season.

The Blue Raiders were led by Sophomore Claire Fleming who posted her first double-double of the season with 12 points and 11 rebounds. Saniyah Shelton and Taylor Guess were the other Blue Raiders who ended the night in double figures with 10, and 11 respectively.

The Blue raiders will be back in action at 3pmCT on Friday, November 22, 2024, in Rio Grande, OH, to take on Saint Mary-Of-The-Woods College (IN) in the Bevo Francis Classic.

Operation Christmas Child 2024 Collection Week is underway

Operation Christmas Child collection week officially kicked off on Monday, November 18, 2024. Among those dropping off shoeboxes on the first day for 2024 were Jon and Peggy Conover, Antioch Church, Bloomington Chapel Women's Mission, Richard Miles and Amy Young, and members of the Murphy family.

The central drop off location in Adair County is located at the Wheet Fellowship Hall at The Columbia First Church of the Nazarene located at 1200 Jamestown St., Columbia, KY. Drop offs will continue daily through Monday, November 25, 2024 (click for schedule).

Volunteers from Columbia Baptist Church have already packed over 1,100 boxes for this year's collection drive, and last year, 3,300 shoebox gifts were collected.

Thanksgiving Concert at Harrods Fork Baptist Church

Mercy's Won will be in concert for a Thanksgiving singing at Harrods Fork Baptist Church at 10:30amCT on Sunday, November 24, 2024. A fellowship meal will follow the singing at NoonCT. Sunday school begins at 9:30amCT. The pastor, Bro. Mark Pierce, and the congregation invite everyone to attend.
