Shot - Stabbed - Hanged - and More a success

By Mike Watson

Dave Thomas and I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who came out on the evening of October 25 to attend the second -- we hope of many -- downtown walking tours.

This one, "Shot - Stabbed - Hanged - and More on the Columbia Public Square," seems to have been a success. Our "people counters" who try to determine the turnout at such events had a difficult time deciding how many came out, but we have concluded that between 90 and 100 were in attendance.

You can help Adair Co. Schools Backpack Program

From Heather Dudley, Coordinator
Adair County Primary Center Family Resource Center

Throughout the school year, breakfast and lunch are available to school-aged children. However, when the weekend arrives, many of the same children are at risk of hunger.

Adair County Schools partner with Feeding America to operate a school backpack program. Schools help identify these children, and the Backpack Program provides food for them. Each Friday, FRYSC and Head Start personnel discreetly send home a bag of 12-15 non-perishable, individually-sized food items which are put into the backpacks of children who do not always have enough food.

How can you, your business, club, organization or church help?
Log onto www.feedingamericaky.org. Click on DONATE & Backpack & Food Pantry Program. Make sure you select ADAIR County as the designee of your donation! This ensures that your donations stay 100% local.

Oct 30 declared Buckle Up, Phone Down Day in Kentucky

From Marla Marrs

Frankfort, KY - Team Kentucky and Gov. Andy Beshear are calling on all Kentuckians to take two simple actions to make highways safer for everyone as the state recognizes the second inaugural 'Buckle Up, Phone Down Day' October 30.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), while anything that takes a driver's eyes off the road, hands off the wheel or mind off the task of driving is a hazard, texting and using a phone while driving is especially risky because it combines all three types of distraction - visual, manual and cognitive.

"Every time we get behind the wheel, we take on the responsibility to protect ourselves and those around us," said Gov. Beshear. "Buckling up and putting the phone down are practical ways to keep everyone safe and avoid losing more lives on our roads."
