How to defuse an argument

Your spouse is making you mad. Voices are getting louder. Tensions are high. What do you do? Take five seconds. You don't need 10 seconds. You don't need 15. Just take a five second pause.

That's the conclusion that University of St. Andrews researchers drew in a new study, published in Communications Psychology, which showed that even the briefest of pauses can reduce negative emotions. The pause is perfect for handling lower-level conflicts preventing escalation. It is not meant for domestic violence situations.

Bernheim Forest and Arboretum Fall Plant Sale is Oct 18

From Lynette Cox

Clermont, KY - Bernheim Forest and Arboretum is pleased to announce its much anticipated Fall Plant Sale on Friday, October 18, from 9amET until 3pmET at the Bernheim Visitor Center, 2075 Clermont Rd, Clermont, KY.

"Fall is the ideal time to enhance your landscape," says Renee Frith, Director of Horticulture and Sustainable Landscapes at Bernheim Forest and Arboretum. "Healthy roots produce healthy shoots! Planting in Fall limits the need for supplemental water and allows the plant to focus on root growth for a strong and healthy Spring flush."

The plant sale will feature woody trees and shrubs, sun--and shade-loving perennials, and pollinator plant kits. Most of the plants offered at the sale are native U.S. species, with a unique selection of introduced species. Why do we love natives so much? Native plants are well-adapted to the environment and support local wildlife, particularly pollinators. The sale offers a diverse selection of plants suitable for various garden spots, whether sunny, shaded, wet, or dry.
