ACSO: Parkway collision results in injuries

By Sheriff Josh Brockman
Adair County Sheriff's Office

On February 8, 2024, at 2:26pmCT, Adair County 911 received a call of a vehicle collision westbound on the Louie B. Nunn Parkway near the county line. Upon the arrival of Deputy Sheriff Gary Roy and Deputy Sheriff Emily Wall, it was found that both westbound lanes of the parkway were obstructed as two vehicles had collided and injuries had occurred.

Preliminary investigation indicates both unit two, operated by William Shirley of Edmonton, and unit one, operated by Greyson Bernard of Adair County, were traveling west when unit one struck unit two in the rear of the vehicle, causing both vehicles to spin out of control. Speed is believed to be a contributing factor in the collision.

William Shirley was transported by Adair County EMS to TJ Health Columbia, and Greyson Bernard was taken by private vehicle for additional medical treatment.

The collision is being investigated by Deputy Emily Wall, who was assisted by Deputy Gary Roy and the Columbia-Adair County Fire Department.

Letter: More on Miss Lake Cumberland 1973

JIM writes:
I think it's likely the reports of Brenda K. Brookshire's premature perishment are greatly exaggerated. She married first in late 1977 and divorced in the fall of 1980, about a year after their son was born. By 1986 she had remarried and at some point, her son took his step-dad's surname.

As best as I can determine, Brenda was still living when her father passed in 1991, when her mother passed in 2008, and when her mother-in-law passed in 2017. She turned 63 in March of the latter year.

In addition to Miss Lake Cumberland 1973, she was also Miss Lexington, 1972; Miss Kentucky Bicentennial 1975; and a contestant in the 1972 Miss Kentucky Pageant.
