Temporary warming center open in freezing temps Mike Keltner, Director, of the Adair County Emergency Management, says the Courthouse Annex basement on the Square in Columbia will remain open for several days as a temporary warming location during this weather event. Access can be made via the door on the barber shop side. The mid-afternoon temperature is 50 degrees Friday, January 12, 2024. Taylor Co. BFLP project approved for $75K loan Frankfort, KY - The Kentucky Agricultural Finance Corp. (KAFC) approved $2,504,875 for 14 agricultural loans for projects across the commonwealth at its monthly board meeting in January, including ten Beginning Farmer loans totaling up to $1,785,375. Loan recipients were in Christian ($104,000), Garrard ($54,000), Hart ($53,000), Hopkins ($250,000), McLean ($250,000), Taylor ($74,375), Todd ($250,000 and $250,000), Union ($250,000), and Wayne ($250,000) counties. The BFLP is designed to assist individuals with some farming experience who desire to develop, expand, or buy into a farming operation. Shelter will be open in Adair Courthouse Annex By AC Sherrif Josh Brockman Friday, early morning, January 12, 2024: There are plans by County Judge Executive Larry Bryant and Emergency Management Director Mike Keltner to open the Adair County Courthouse Annex this afternoon after the close of business as a warming station through the term of the cold front. Recycling is working as citizens requested "Bring it and we'll work with you," says Adair Recycling Center Director John Salamonski. "We've been open over a year now and the center is cleaned and functioning as citizens requested. We're open Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 7am-3pmCT. When the center is closed, he says it is acceptable to leave recyclable items under the roofed open area. Mixed trash is not welcome anytime - none is to be left when it's closed, nor brought there during open hours. Weather System can cause hazardous driving From the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (Jan. 11, 2024) - A multiple-phase weather system is expected to move through the the state beginning overnight tonight. Rain with strong winds is expected overnight with single-digit temperatures with possible snow Sunday and Monday. The National Weather Service Louisville (NWS) has issued a Wind Advisory predicting strong winds over 50 mph beginning overnight. Heavy rain is also expected throughout the day on Friday. The strong winds Friday could cause issues for vehicles, particularly large vehicles, along with wet travel conditions. Traffic signals could also be impacted, and motorists should use caution at intersections. Signals could become twisted and not visible to motorists. Power outages could also cause traffic signals not to function. Any intersection with traffic signals not functioning properly should be treated as an all-around stop.
