We had around 600 kids along with parents/guardians. A very special Thank You to our businesses and organizations that braved the cold to pass out candy so our community's children could have a safe Halloween. You are greatly appreciated! And of course, our City Police who kept our streets blocked and provided a presence on the Square to keep us all safe. Melissa Rexroat-Craigmiles, 56, Adair County, KY Melissa Rexroat-Craigmiles, of Columbia, passed suddenly from this life Friday, October 20, 2023, at her home. She was 56 years of age. She had a beautiful soul and was a most special lady who touched the lives of everyone who knew her. She was a family historian and genealogist and was a large contributor to the popular FindaGrave.com website. She loved flowers and butterflies and was a collector of miniature figurines. Melissa was filled with the Holy Spirit and was A Warrior for Christ. Jolene McDaniel, 70, Taylor County, KY (1953-2023) Jolene McDaniel, 70, of Campbellsville, Kentucky, daughter of the late Nancy Lewis Giles was born September 4th, 1953, in Campbellsville, Kentucky, and departed this life on Saturday, October 14th, 2023 at Select Specialty Hospital in Danville. Jolene united in marriage to Steve McDaniel on September 11th, 1987. He survives. Flower Bed Christmas 2023 The City of Columbia is announcing a special opportunity in conjunction with the Chamber's Christmas in Columbia. This year's parade theme is "A Magical Christmas," and the City would like the flower beds on each corner of the Public Square to be decorated in conjunction with that theme. "We want to make this Christmas magical for our children," said Mayor Pamela Hoots. Tiffany Collins at City Hall will be coordinating the ideas with each participant. If you or your business would like to decorate a corner, please call Tiffany at City Hall at 270-384-2501, no later than Tuesday, November 7, 2023. Congratulations to ACES student Emmett Davenport The Center for Gifted Studies at Western Kentucky University hosts a program called Super Saturdays encouraging students in grades 1 - 6 who have high interest in a topic they'd like to pursue outside the regular classroom. Adair County Elementary School fifth grader Emmett Davenport participated in a creative writing course which focused on developing an original scary story. The result of his special study is “The Georgia Man” - a story which his parents Todd and Cayce say, "we expect to be a best seller one day! Emmett had a blast and has begged to sign up for their Winter courses." Soccer: LWC women close out regular season with 3-3 tie Williamsburg, KY - The Lindsey Wilson women's soccer team closed out its regular season rallying in the second half to tie No. 3 Cumberlands (KY) 3-3 at the UC Soccer Complex on Monday. With the tie, the Blue Raiders (4-10-1, 2-3-1 Mid-South Conference) have earned the No. 5 seed in the MSC tournament.
