Soccer: LWC women close out regular season with 3-3 tie

Williamsburg, KY - The Lindsey Wilson women's soccer team closed out its regular season rallying in the second half to tie No. 3 Cumberlands (KY) 3-3 at the UC Soccer Complex on Monday.

With the tie, the Blue Raiders (4-10-1, 2-3-1 Mid-South Conference) have earned the No. 5 seed in the MSC tournament. Lindsey Wilson's opponent will be known when the full bracket gets released by conference officials following the conclusion of the regular season Tuesday night.

Ashiat Naluggwa, Efua Asabel and Silvia Marchesi each scored for the Blue Raiders. Gabby Duerson recorded four saves. Cumberlands (12-0-3, 5-0-1 MSC) held a 17-6 advantage in shots and a slight 7-5 edge in shots on goal.

After not recording a shot in the first half, Naluggwa got the Blue Raiders on the board in the 52nd minute. Naluggwa received a through ball from Marchesi and shot the ball that went off the right post and into the goal. Asabel made it 3-2 in the 81st minute after heading the ball into the net off of a Marchesi corner kick. Marchesi tied the game in the 87th minute after receiving a ball from Asabel.

Cumberlands got on the board twice in the first half. Jayden Boelter scored first for the Patriots in the 28th minute and then 18 seconds later Judit Moya increased the Patriots lead to 2-0.

The Blue Raiders look to prepare for the MSC Tournament. The full bracket will be released on Tuesday night. Be sure to check for information on the opponent, date and time.
