Shot - Stabbed - Hanged - and More starts at 7pmCT

There's been a little confusion on start time for tonight's walking tour, "Shot - Stabbed - Hanged - and More on the Public Square" in Columbia.

We reached out to host Mike Watson and he said it starts at 7pmCT on the Courthouse Annex steps. Early posters were printed back before they knew what time dark would come on this date which said it would start at dusk. October is such a tricky month. Now we know dark is arriving earlier and earlier, so just go by your clock. See you there!

Letter: More history of people who lived in the Field House

Genna Vinson Twomey writes:
It's so nice to see that Columbia is preserving it's unique American history. It's interesting reseaching my Kentucky family. My 4th great grandparents, John and Ann Speake Brawner were early settlers and lived in the Nathan Gaither house after they bought it in 1836. Deeds show that they sold the house to Wyatt Smith. Wyatt was the Brawner's son-in-law married to their daughter Elizabeth.

Ann Speake's cousin, Sarah Speake Mckee lived in the Field house for a while. Her husband Rev. John L. Mckee helped start the high school in Columbia. He was the pastor of the Presbyterian Church for several years and was also the Vice President of Centre College. Hope someone buys the Field house and restores it. It's a wonderful house with a very interesting history. Thanks for posting the article. Would love to read Mike Watson's book.
