Traffic west and south will have delays this week BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (May 21, 2023) - The expected traffic impacts in the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet District 3 area for May 21 through May 26 are listed below. All work is subject to change. Louie B. Nunn - Cumberland Expressway A project to resurface the Louie B. Nunn - Cumberland Expressway from I-65 (mile point 0.0) to near the KY 1297 bridge (mile point 9.3) is expected to continue. Motorists should expect delays and lane closures. Please slow down, avoid distracted driving, and obey all signage. Short-term ramp closures at the interchange with I-65 are expected to take place overnight on May 24 and 25. Memorial Day service May 28, 2023 in Edmonton By Chris Lagermann American Legion Post 65 Edmonton-Metcalfe County is proud to have Major Paul Smith, (Retired) of Columbia, as the speaker for the Memorial Day program on Sunday, May 28 at 1:30pmCT at the Historic Courthouse Square. He joined the Masonic Lodge, the Scottish right as a 33rd degree Mason, and for the Shriners where volunteers raise money for the Shriners Hospital and charities of Kentucky. He has volunteered at the Adair County Schools and has volunteered with the Wolf Creek Fish Hatchery for over ten years raising fish, and involved with special events: children's fishing derbies, Wounded Warriors fishing derbies and Special Needs Children fishing derbies. Russell County to get electric vehicle charging station The Russell County Tourism Director announced at the May Fiscal Court meeting that a new electric vehicle (EV) charging station is coming to the Tourism office. Russell is one of four counties in the state to get fast car chargers from Kentucky Utilities as a part of their special development project. Debbie Stephens, 66, Russell County, KY (1956-2023) Debbie Stephens, of Jamestown, passed away on Friday, May 19, 2023 at 66 years of age. Born at home on October 2, 1956, in Creelsboro, she was the youngest of eleven children born to the union of the late Rollin and Irene Lawless Shearer, Sr. She was a retired Health Information Systems employee at Russell County Hospital, with over 23 years of service. At an early age, Debbie accepted Jesus as her Savior and became a member of Union Chapel United Methodist Church. Not many years later, she became the church treasurer, holding that office for almost 50 years. She loved her family and spending time with them. She always looked forward to all the family "get togethers." Debbie also enjoyed cooking.
