Primary Election 2023 ran smoothly in Adair, thanks to all

Adair County Clerk Lisa Greer sends a heartfelt thank you to the Board of Elections, staff and all of the poll workers who made Primary Election day May 16, 2023 run smoothly.

Whether there is one candidate on the ballot or 30, it takes the same number of dedicated people to do the work ahead - two to three months of prep - a 16-hour election day, and then the meetings and moving of machines and maintenance necessary to close out the election.

After the totals were confirmed it looks like about 18% of registered Adair County voters turned out to cast their ballots even though there were no local candidates this time. Carol Perkins: Change Please

Previous Column: Hello, Are You There?

By Carol Perkins

On a recent trip to the beach with some ladies, we looked for a good steakhouse that wasn't a chain. A place in Pensacola called the District was highly recommended. Fine dining was not what we had in mind, but once we parked and walked a block, we decided to make this our splurge for the week.

We soon realized we were a little underdressed, but no one knew us. A clue upon entering was the overly large flower arrangements throughout the restaurant and even on each table. We could barely see over the bouquet to have a conversation.

Two of us ordered steaks and one side each. The other two had pork chops and one side. No bread, not even a shaker of salt on the table. When the food arrived, we steak eaters were well pleased, but the pork chop eaters were not.
