ACES Library receives $500 Read Across America grant

By Pam Phipps

ACES library was awarded $500 through a grant from the Middle Cumberland Education Association Retired teachers. The $500 grant purchased an equal amount of fiction and non-fiction books for the ACES library.

March 2nd is recognized nationally as Read Across America Day. The nation celebrates the joy of reading during the month of March. During the first week of March, librarians, authors, educators, parents, caregivers, and community members are invited into schools, libraries, churches, and daycare centers to read aloud to our nation's children. Books build a child's sense of belonging and can help inculcate respect and empathy for others.

Throughout the first week of March, Adair Co. students dressed up and participated in school and district Read Across America events. (See also:Read Across Adair 2023 a huge success at ACPC)

Letter: Thanks Connie, for the memories

Donna Rieder writes:
The photo of the geese noted by Connie Slattery brought back childhood memories of my aunt Emma Clemens' (some relation to Samuel but not sure how) geese. She, too, had these ginormous white Emden geese at her farm in Georgia, and they seemed to really enjoy chasing and pinching us small humans, while we ran screaming around and around the house with them in close pursuit.

Emden geese are one of the biggest of the domesticated geese breeds, and for a small child, seeing them at eye level with their wings outspread was truly a terrifying sight. The adults, however, seemed to enjoy the show as they laughed as us young'uns were mauled by these awful birds! Thanks for the memories!
