Boil Water Advisory issued for Weed Keltner Rd area

From Columbia Adair Utilities District
Date issued November 7, 2022
Time Issued 5:15pmCT


A Boil Water Advisory is in effect for consumers of Columbia Adair Utilities District for customers at 399-4663 Weed Keltner Rd and all side roads in between. The advisory has been issued due to a main line break.

Following such an event, the potential exists for bacteriological contamination of the water supply therefore this Boil Water Advisory has been issued as a precautionary measure. Until further notice, boil all water used for drinking and cooking, bringing the water to a rolling boil for three minutes before using.

This advisory will remain in effect until the situation has been corrected and test results have shown the water to be of an acceptable quality. For more information concerning the Boil Water Advisory, contact Lennon Stone at Columbia Adair Utilities District, 270-384-2181.

Geraldine Grant, 90, Columbia, KY (1932-2022)

Geraldine (Davidson) Grant of Columbia died on Sunday, November 6, 2022 at 11:45 A.M. at Summit Manor Nursing Home. She was 90 years old.

The funeral service will be held at 11amCT on Wednesday, November 9, 2022, at Columbia Church of Christ, 501 Jamestown Street, Columbia, KY, with Bro. Steve Martin and Bro. Doug Davidson officiating. Burial will follow in Haven Hill Cemetery.

Visitation is requested on Tuesday after 4pmCT, and on Wednesday after 7amCT, at Columbia Church of Christ.

Shirley Harris, 86, Columbia, KY (1936-2022)

Shirley (Zeutzius) Harris of Columbia died on Sunday, November 6, 2022 at The Grandview in Campbellsville, Kentucky. She was 86 years old.

The funeral service will be held at 11amCT on Friday, November 11, 2022, at Columbia Baptist Church, with Laura Harris and Bro. Randy Johnson officiating.

Burial will take place at NoonET on Saturday in Resthaven Cemetery in Louisville.

The family requests visitation on Thursday after 5pmCT at Grissom-Martin Funeral Home, and after 9amCT on Friday at Columbia Baptist Church.

Cycling: LWC competed at two events over the weekend

The Lindsey Wilson cycling team took part in two separate cyclocross events over the weekend. The Blue Raiders competed at the Lees McRae CX in Banner Elk, North Carolina before finishing their road trip in Johnson City, Tennessee at the All Out Sunday Cyclocross race.

Caregivers lunch open to all Wednesday, Nov 9

The Adair County Caregiver Support Group will meet Wednesday, November 9, 2022 at 11amCT at the Extension office on Fairground Street in Columbia. This is an invitation for anyone that is caregiving to come, have a complimentary light lunch and receive helpful information.

If you are a caregiver, you need time away just as any worker needs a vacation from the daily stress of his or her job, according to the National Caregivers Association. It's a break that renews you.

Per Adair County Road Foreman Barry Hamlett, Vester Road will be closed on Tuesday, November 8, 2022, for blacktopping.

4-H Country Ham Scholarship Recipients:
Congradulations to Keaton Burton, Beth Cowan, and Eliza Spinks for being selected to receive the 2022 4-H Country Ham Scholarship. Each will receive $300 to go towards their continuing education. All three have been involved in the 4-H Ham project since they were Cloverbuds.

Also, we would like to thank the following people for donations to the Scholarship Ham totaling $3000.00:

Columbia Baptist holds annual OCC Packing Party

The Columbia Baptist Church held their annual packing party to prepare shoebox gifts for Operation Christmas Child on Sunday evening, November 6, 2022, in their fellowship hall. According to Green River Team Area Coordinator Mark Fudge, the need for shoe box gifts is greater now than ever before.

National collection week for Operation Christmas Child is November 14-21, 2022. Boxes can be dropped off at the Wheet Fellowship Hall at the Columbia First Church of the Nazarene, 1200 Jamestown Street, Columbia, KY, on the following schedule:

ACHS Academic Team Wins Big at JV Challenge

The ACHS Academic Team won 1st Place overall in Section 8 of the JV Challenge Championships on Saturday, November 6, 2022. Teams from across the region of Metcalfe County, Casey County, and all of the Somerset area schools competed for the top prize, and Adair County came out on top.

The team had six students place in individual events at the event. Sophomore Bailey Watts finished in 1st Place in both Arts and Humanities and Language Arts. In another impressive feat, over 200 students competed at the event statewide, and Bailey Watts was 3rd overall in the state.

Sophomores Tristin Andrews, Trevir Andrews, and Joseph Kotter all earned medals in the Science category. Tristin won the championship in the event while his brother Trevir finished right behind in 2nd Place. Kotter earned the 4th Place medal in the event, helping Adair dominate the category and clench that overall championship in the process.

Composition competed earlier in the week, and after the evaluators completed their scores, the results on Saturday revealed that Mia Schneider captured 4th Place and Trina Nguyen took home 5th Place in the event.

Adair County has now won back-to-back Section 8 Championships since in-person competition has resumed following the pandemic.

EDA will get site visit to industrial park

The Columbia Adair County Economic Development Authority (EDA) has received word that our recent grant application for a build-ready pad in the Green River Commerce Park will be progressing to the next phase. A visit by the Site Selection Group will take place in mid-November.

This visit does not indicate the awarding of the grant, but is definitely something to be celebrated as the next step toward it.

Darrell Wayne Turner of Campbellsville died on Saturday, November 5, 2022 at 2:50 P.M. at his mother's residence after a short illness. He was 46 years old.

Volleyball: LWC sweeps Shawnee State on Senior Day

At Biggers Sports Center, the Lindsey Wilson volleyball team celebrated its latest senior class in style, handling Shawnee State University in a three-set decision on Sunday afternoon.

The victory pushes the Blue Raiders' win streak to a season-long four matches and secures them the fourth seed in this week's Mid-South Conference tournament. The Blue Raiders wrap up their regular season with an overall record of 13-12.

Lindsey Wilson will take on the University of the Cumberlands in the quarterfinals on Thursday afternoon at 3pmCT at Ephram White Gym in Bowling Green.
