Saving the wild raspberries Click headline to see some pictures of Lary's wild black raspberry plants By Larry Clark Several years ago I was sitting in my yard watching the traffic. A spray truck stopped, and two people I knew, but will not name, came up and we started a conversation about raspberries. Mainly because I had dug some tame red raspberry plants. I gave each of them a potted plant of raspberries. A few days later I went down the road and to my dismay I saw where they had sprayed and killed all the wild black raspberry plants. I had picked in those patches for years. A few days later I dug up some of the plants across a ditch line where the spray didn't reach.I brought them home and planted them in my backyard. I didn't write this to embarrass anyone, just wanted to say that sometimes something good comes from bad things that happen to us. 2022-07-22 12:49:25 | Comments | Printable version
New online tool for KY families receiving public assistance From Jessica Fletcher Frankfort, KY - On July 22, 2022, Gov. Andy Beshear announced a new free online tool designed to show Kentucky families who receive public assistance a way to calculate how much it takes for them to afford necessities without state and federal assistance so that they have a roadmap to financial independence. "Building a better Kentucky means helping families to become self-sufficient and to thrive so they no longer have to depend on social benefit programs for day-to-day needs such as food, health care and childcare. The Family Resource Simulator is a great online resource for Kentuckians, because now we can accurately calculate how much a family will have to earn at a job to no longer depend on social benefit programs. It will help Kentuckians find answers to their questions and plan for their future," said Gov. Beshear. Created by the Kentucky Center for Statistics (KYSTATS), an agency within the Kentucky Education and Labor Cabinet (KELC), the Family Resource Simulator is now available to guide individuals and families in the commonwealth in understanding how changes in income can impact heath care, childcare and other state and federal benefits. The tool can be accessed at kystats.ky.gov/FRS. Article continues... click title or click here to read whole article. 2022-07-22 12:39:54 | Comments | Printable version

Letter: Vapor drift Marie Freeman writes: After research with crossbow the herbicide used by our county it should not be applied above 85 degrees. Reason? Vapor drift! This can cause the herbicide to drift up to one mile. The night after the application on my road we received torrential rain. I'm sure other than what I absorbed and inhaled washed away. Other than immediate damage the rest is systemic. And crossbow can remain in the soil up to 2 years! 2022-07-22 07:47:48 | Comments | Printable version | See topic Letters and Reader Feedback
