Damon Hicks named LWC Cheer and Dance Head Coach By Christopher Coombs Damon Hicks has been promoted to head coach of the Lindsey Wilson cheer and dance teams, Athletics Director Willis Pooler announced on Tuesday. "I am excited to once again lead Lindsey Wilson cheer and dance in recruiting and training as well as the opportunity to coach these incredible student-athletes at LWC in a sport I am so passionate about," Hicks said. "I am dedicated to helping them achieve their athletics goals in competition, supporting their fellow LWC athletic teams, and bringing home cheer and dance championships to Columbia." Damon is a familiar face around the Lindsey Wilson program serving as the head coach from 2010-16 before stepping away for a few seasons and later returning as an assistant coach from 2019 through last season. He has over 30 years of experience in cheer and dance and offers his athletes expertise in cheer, tumbling, and dance. ACSO: Monroe Co. man arrested on felony drug charges By Sheriff Josh Brockman Adair County Sheriff's Office On Saturday, July 16, 2022, Sheriff Josh Brockman received a call of a suspicious vehicle on Bull Run Road, 2 miles east of Columbia. Sheriff Brockman and Deputy Derek Padgett located the vehicle, a 2013 black Dodge Avenger, and initiated contact. The operator appeared under the influence during roadside investigation. A field sobriety test was conducted by Deputy Padgett, and as a result the driver was placed under arrest for operating a motor vehicle under the influence of drugs. The driveer was also found to be operating on a suspended drivers license for 3 prior DUIs. Upon taking him into custody, a search revealed pills and suspected methamphetamine concealed in his belt line. Floral Hall Competition schedule for 2022 Do you have a favorite recipe, handmade item, or outstanding produce item? You may just have this year's Grand Champion entry! From Dylan Gentry, Agent for Family & Consumer Sciences Adair County Cooperative Extension Service The Adair County Floral Hall Competition will be held July 27, 28, and 29, 2022. The entire Floral Hall will take place at the Extension Office this year. Additionally, it is free to participate in the Floral Hall competition. There are over 200 categories available for entry. Categories include quilting, textiles, canning, breads, cakes, candies, cookies, pies, stitchery, knitting, flowers, crafts, art, and photography. For a complete list of entry categories and other details, visit the Adair County Extension Office, 409 Fairground Street, Columbia, KY. Gov. Beshear signs six bills to improve education access From Crystal Staley/Scottie Ellis Frankfort, KY - On Monday, Gov. Andy Beshear joined state lawmakers, educators and advocates in the Capitol Rotunda to ceremonially sign six bills that expand access to education in the commonwealth. The bills add post-secondary pathways for high school students in alternative schools; address teacher shortages; support early literacy education; support due process for university students; speed up the process for school district construction projects; and expand Kentucky children's access to books.
