Teacher Appreciation Week May 2-May 6

By Phyllis Curry

National Teacher Appreciation Week is being celebrated the week of May 2-May 6. Thank you to all the local businesses, churches and individuals who have provided any type of recognition for teachers and other staff in Adair County this week. They are so deserving!

If you have not reached out to a teacher this week, just a simple note or a thank you would be great. Thank you!

Kentuckians encouraged to submit art for next Capitol exhibit

By Crystal Staley/Lindsay Bloom

Frankfort, KY - Gov. Andy Beshear and First Lady Britainy Beshear invite Kentuckians to lend their artistic talents to the Team Kentucky Gallery, which is located in two main halls of the state Capitol in Frankfort.

The Beshears believe there is no better place than the Capitol to highlight Kentuckians' voices as represented through art.

Selected artworks will be displayed for a six-month rotation in the Capitol and on the Team Kentucky Digital Art Gallery, where the artists can provide additional information. After each rotation, artworks are returned to the artists. The current rotation runs until June 30, 2022. The next rotation will begin July 1 and run until December 31, 2022.

The deadline to submit artwork for consideration for the fall 2022 exhibit is Friday, June 3, 2022. Artworks will be selected by the second week of June, and artists will be notified shortly thereafter.

KYTC: Signs are restricted on right of way

Campaign, yard sale, promotional and other advertising signs are subject to removal

By Chris Jessie

Elizabethtown, KY - Heading into the final weeks before the May Primary, we are receiving several questions and concerns regarding signs placed on right of way. Emphasizing a release from earlier this year, illegally placed items along state maintained right of way areas are subject to being removed. Political campaigns, residents, business operators and property owners along US and KY routes are reminded no signage is allowed on right of way other than official highway signs and items approved through a permit process. Non-permitted signs can create additional hazards by blocking sight distance or distracting drivers, particularly at intersections.

Requests have been received to clear non-permitted signs from right of way areas across the district. With May Primary races and the traditional yard sale season upon us, anyone wanting to place such signage must do so beyond roadway right of way limits. Along routes with a right of way fence, the fence is also part of the restriction and no signage may be attached. In addition to signs, the restriction also applies to all yard sale and peddling activities and associated parking.
