Broersma and Dukes are LWC Scholar-Athletes of the Year By Kyle Jackson Maaike Broersma and Cameron Dukes have been named the 2021-22 Lindsey Wilson College Scholar-Athletes of the Year. Broersma is a member of the Lindsey Wilson women's swimming team while Dukes just completed his career as a member of the football team. The pair was recognized on Tuesday at the college's annual Honors Convocation ceremony. Broersma and Dukes earned the award based on their academic, athletic, and civic achievements throughout their Lindsey Wilson careers. Ways to vote in Adair County for the 2022 Primary Election Click headline for details on each of the voting methods and the list of precincts that will be open on Election Day. Regardless of where or when you vote please remember to bring valid KY ID. From Lisa Greer, Adair County Clerk There are several ways to vote in the upcoming Kentucky Primary Election, some of them familiar from before the pandemic, and some of them similar to the last couple of years. Mail in Absentee Voting and Excused In-Person Absentee Voting will only be available to those we meet certain criteria, as explained at Govote.ky.gov. Early Voting will be possible for any registered voter on May 12, 13, and 14 at the Annex Building. Election Day, Tuesday, May 17, 2022, will look much like years past, with voters required to vote in their precinct of record. All precincts will be open from 6amCT to 6pmCT on Election Day. April is Goat Month in Kentucky By Lisa Tolliver Frankfort, KY - Kentucky goat producers and industry stakeholders joined Commissioner of Agriculture Dr. Ryan Quarles today as he signed a proclamation declaring April as Goat Month in Kentucky. "Creating diversity in our livestock throughout the commonwealth is key to keeping relevant in today's consumer trends," Commissioner Quarles said. "Goats add that variety, along with being an excellent source of protein and dairy products. This month we salute the diversity goat adds to our state's agricultural outlook." In the United States, goats are primarily used for producing dairy products, such as milk, yogurt, and cheese. But the popularity of goat meat is increasing each year as consumers recognize its benefits. Goat meat is lean with low levels of saturated fat and cholesterol, high levels of iron, and packed with proteins and vitamins. Watch out for fraud when using payment apps These days many folks prefer digital payment options, like PayPal, Zelle and Venmo. Indeed, only 20 percent of payments are now made in cash. Yet while apps provide convenience, they also create risks, especially for sellers. Peer-to-Peer (P2P) payment platforms (Google Wallet, PayPal, Snapcash, Venmo and Cash App, for example) allow consumers to quickly and easily exchange money with one another. Many businesses now accept and use these platforms as well. However, P2P providers don't provide extensive fraud protection and you could get ripped off with little to no recourse. Unfortunately, in some cases, the terms-of-service advanced by some apps make it easier for people to rip others off. Bradley Payne Jeffries, 72, native of Columbia, KY "Bradley kept Kentucky in her heart. She was a diehard fan of Kentucky Basketball and closely followed Kentucky politics. Bradley considered growing up in Columbia an idyllic childhood and she maintained friendships there throughout her lifetime." Bradley Payne Jeffries, 72, passed away on June 4, 2021 in Ft. Myers, Florida after a lengthy illness. Bradley was born in Columbia, Kentucky to Dr. Todd and Ilene Jeffries, both deceased.
