Gov. Beshear, Lt. Gov. Coleman host booster clinic at Capitol By Crystal Staley/Scottie Ellis Frankfort, KY - On Wednesday, Gov. Andy Beshear and Lt. Gov. Jacqueline Coleman hosted a COVID-19 vaccination booster clinic at the Capitol where more than 200 people received a booster. The Governor said hospitalizations among vaccinated Kentuckians are increasing over time as immunity likely wanes. Boosters help individuals protect themselves and others better as immunity from the initial vaccine dose(s) can decrease. All eligible vaccinated Kentucky adults can now get any of the three COVID-19 vaccination boosters: Pfizer, Moderna and Johnson & Johnson. KY General Fund and Road Fund receipts for October 2021 General Fund receipts rose 10.5 percent, 17.6 percent year-to-date Road Fund receipts rose 0.1 percent, 2.7 percent year-to-date By John Hicks/Greg Harkenrider Frankfort, KY - State Budget Director John Hicks reported today that October's General Fund receipts rose 10.5 percent, or $99.7 million over last year's total. Revenues for the month were $1,048.2 million compared to $948.4 million collected in October 2020. Receipts have increased 17.6 percent for the first four months of the fiscal year, significantly higher than budgeted estimates and would need to grow 0.7 percent over the final eight months of FY22 to reach the unofficial, preliminary revenue estimate issued by the Consensus Forecasting Group of $13.72 billion. ISP student thoughts on the emergency in Ethiopia By Anna Peterson, Assistant Director of ISP Ethiopia, the second most populated country in Africa, is struggling after more than a year of civil war. The conflict has left thousands dead and forced more than two million people from their homes. In recent days, the war has shifted heavily in favor of the rebel forces. The Federal Government of Ethiopia has now called for a nationwide state of emergency and the officials in the capital, Addis Ababa, have begun preparing the residents of the city for the rebels' attacks. A few days ago, LWC International Student Programs received a message from a couple of local host parents regarding the current state of affairs in Ethiopia and the impact it is having on an organization, Embracing Hope Ethiopia. We have included some information below, but would also like to share some personal comments from a local student from Ethiopia.
