Kentucky State Parks expand campground reopening guidelines

By Gil Lawson

Frankfort, KY - Following the reopening of Kentucky State Park campgrounds, parks officials announced today that campground bathhouses will also reopen. Campers with tents and pop-up campers will now have access to the state park campgrounds.

In an effort to protect the health and safety of park guests and staff from the novel coronavirus (COVID-19), reopening guidelines restricted the use of campgrounds to self-contained campers and RVs due to the closure of bathhouses. After further consultation with state public health officials, it was determined that state park campground bathhouses could safely be reopened for visitor use.

Sites designated for tent camping can be reserved beginning Friday, June 12, through ReserveAmerica. Campers will also be allowed to have a maximum of two guests at each campsite, which is the current camping regulations.

Governor's Thursday update

By Crystal Staley/Sebastian Kitchen

Frankfort, KY -. (June 11, 2020) - Gov. Andy Beshear on Thursday updated Kentuckians on the state's initiatives to combat the novel coronavirus 2019 (COVID-19).

"Some feel that the world is changing. I saw a poll that many people feel like the world's out of control. We've got to breathe. We've got to stay calm and know that we will get through this together," said Gov. Beshear. "We've already shown that we have what it takes."

Case information
As of 4 p.m. June 11, Gov. Beshear said there were at least 11,945 coronavirus cases in Kentucky, 69 of which were newly confirmed Thursday.

"There is a backlog in the federal system that we put our results into and, because of that, a significant number of results that would have come in today are going to come tomorrow," said Gov. Beshear. "So our number today is really low but you should not read anything into that."

Adair Heritage Association meeting postponed

By Mike Watson

The Adair Heritage Association will not meet in June. The next scheduled quarterly meeting had been scheduled for June 15, 2020, but due to recent events and concern for preserving continued good health, the decision was made to postpone for a time.

Historic action has not diminished during the pandemic. The need to address various processes and issues continues and our dedicated group will keep up during this time.

The Rosenwald/Santa Fee School project is still in the forefront. The Gravestone and Cemetery Preservation project that was to be inaugurated in April had to be postponed, but will see the light later this year.

Keep history and preservation in mind as you continue through this difficult time.

Recycling in Adair: what not to bring to the Center

By Bridget Compton
Adair County Fiscal Court Clerk, Solid Waste Coordinator

I am so grateful for your support for recycling in our community. I have included some pictures I took while working at the Adair County Recycling Center and sorting that may help the public better understand some of the issues the recycling center faces in trying to protect employees and contamination of other recyclable goods.

None of these items that I have included in the pictures are recyclable.

Unfortunately, like other markets, the cost of goods are down due to COVID-19 - and the recycling market was hit hard last year and down already. So we need to do everything we can as a community to ensure we salvage every bit of recyclable materials we can and not create more unnecessary costs by including items that are contaminated and simply not accepted in the first place.

In hopes of answering the question about the Ensure bottles... all bottles have a recycling symbol with a number on the bottom of it. The recycling center does not collect anything that has a number 5 or number 7, or does not have a recycling symbol or number at all.

The lawsuit, which is the third suit filed by the coalition, names 26 corporate defendants and 10 individual defendants in a conspiracy to artificially inflate and manipulate prices for over 80 generic dermatological drugs sold across the United States.

The topical drugs at the center of the complaint include creams, gels, lotions, ointments, shampoos, and solutions used to treat a variety of skin conditions, pain, and allergies. The lawsuit seeks damages, civil penalties, and actions by the court to restore competition to the generic drug market.
