Lindsey Wilson Celebrates its Methodist Heritage The Lindsey Wilson College community celebrated its connection to The United Methodist Church yesterday, September 19th during the annual Church College Celebration Day. The college - which is affiliated with the Kentucky Annual Conference of The United Methodist Church - held Church Celebration Day in V.P. Henry Auditorium. Church College Celebration Day was started more than 20 years ago by then-LWC Provost and Dean of the Faculty Walter S. Reuling as an expression of the college's relationship with The United Methodist Church, which dates to LWC's founding in 1903. The ceremony consisted of songs of worship, scripture readings, a college affirmation by Dr. John Hatton Pastor of Columbia United Methodist Church, a church affirmation by LWC President William T. Luckey Jr., and a message by Dean of the Chapel, Dr. Terry Swan. Traveling exhibit to highlight artwork by military veterans By By Tom Musgrave Frankfort, KY - Military veterans may have put down their rifles, but the Kentucky Arts Council is asking them to pick up their brushes, pencils and other art tools to participate in an exhibit that features and honors their service. The arts council seeks artwork from veterans and their spouses and children for The Kentucky Veteran Project Exhibit. The application deadline for the exhibit is Oct. 5. The exhibit will be on display Nov. 5-28, in the Capitol Rotunda in Frankfort, before embarking on a yearlong statewide tour in December. Helton found guilty on child pornography charges By Terry Sebastian/Crystal Staley FRANKFORT, KY - Attorney General Andy Beshear announced a 54-year-old Russell County man has been found guilty of possessing and distributing child pornography. On Friday, Sept. 14, a Russell County jury found Robert Helton, of Russell Springs, guilty on five counts of possession of matter portraying a sexual performance by a minor and five counts of distribution of matter portraying a sexual performance by a minor, class D felonies. The three-day jury trial resulted in guilty verdicts on all counts. The presiding judge at sentencing, set for Nov. 13, 2018, will determine a final sentence. The charges against Helton stem from a March 2014 investigation by the Office of the Attorney General, Department of Criminal Investigations, Cyber Crimes Branch. Lester, Pittman complete Youth Worker Academy 22 graduated from the Kentucky Department of Juvenile Justice Youth Worker Academy #97, including Jonathon Lester and Rebecca Pittman from the Adair YDC. Frankfort, KY - In August, The Kentucky Department of Juvenile Justice (DJJ) graduated the newest class of certified youth workers. The 22 new youth workers will serve at DJJ facilities throughout the Commonwealth. The Youth Worker Academy is a seven-week intensive training program designed to provide basic skills training in security practices, and procedures necessary to function in a juvenile facility setting.
